I want to start out by saying that at its core this is a very human and relatable story about losing a place that held a lot of memories, and everyone has experienced that feeling… BUT

The most egregious part of the Taix saga is the preservationists are trying to overrule what the *tenant* wants
Right now Los Angeles preservationists are fighting tooth and nail to stop this shitty plywood faux Tudor restaurant and its acre of surface parking from being redeveloped as apartments over a new restaurant space and like, what the hell? THIS is what you want to “save?” Really? This?

When does Taix reopen?

I ate and drank like an old Hollywood starlet this past week: Musso and Frank’s, Formosa Cafe, El Coyote, and even said my farewells to Taix

the taix saga radicalized me against the esotouric couple, I regret taking an ex-girlfriend on their tour 10 years ago LOL

In fading L.A. history news, today is the last day of service for both Taix in Echo Park and Cole's in Downtown L.A. Sad losses for cool spots that are institutions.

Had my farewell meal at Taix this past weekend as the historic Echo Park restaurant will be closing on Sunday (this one’s gonna hurt). My parents lived in Echo Park when I was born, so they were eating here before I ever entered the picture.

So many great restaurants have closed in the last couple years, I don’t understand why Taix has become a flashpoint

R.I.P. Burrito King, and condolences to Edendale. This is a crushing blow after Taix. At least Taco Zone still lives.

Not that people aren't legitimately attached to Taix and aren't sad to see it go, but only Taix has become thinkpiece fodder.

With Rob Halford and Larry Flynt at Taix for the Tom of Finland Cultural Icons Awards 2001 (I was standing in to receive HR Giger's trophy!, I did receive my own in 2019). I was friends with his late wife Althea and we did flash back to the Larry Flynt for President event in his Bel Air home.

In LA, our politicians get bought in more appropriate settings like dusty, old French restaurants (RIP Taix ✊🏽), overpriced rooftop bars, and bathroom stalls. As it should be.
Beside the point, but shady meetings to buy off US senators really shouldn't happen at a Corner Bakery. Far too blasé.

No Taix no more. Demolition began Monday, with no salvage of the good 1920s beams and soon there will be dirt where generations of Angelenos broke bread and were happy. We do not have to live this way, or settle for such crummy "leadership." youtu.be/JJCD8VGg6d4

Before Les Freres Taix moved into 1911 Sunset Blvd, it was an Echo Park restaurant called Botwin’s.
