You should see this: A 3-year-old's metastatic liver cancer is in complete remission for over a year after two doses of experimental CAR T-cell therapy. CAR T-cells (immune cells re-engineered to find & kill cancer) struggle with solid tumors, but this is a breakthrough.

Presently, patients receiving CAR T therapy for their cancer need to have T cells isolated from their blood, which are then engineered to express the CAR. The cells are rhen shipped back and infused into the patient. This new study shows a technique for generating CAR T cells in vivo.

Your adaptive immune system comprises two cell types - T cells which develop in the thymus and B cells which develop in the bone marrow. Both arise from hematopoietic stem cells located in the bone marrow. These two cell types have very unique functions, which protect you from pathogens. 1/2
