Will be whipping out the ROMs for testing and socketing. EPROM adapter boards are on the way just in case. The SlimPLA tests OK in a TL866, but without a comparison I also wonder if I might have a timing edge case.

This RAM+ card is driving me nuts. Keeps faulting on Bank 2 parity error randomly. Yanked the RAM, tests fine. swapped banks around. Yanked the 74 series chips, tested them in the TL866. Fine, i am kinda at a loss here.

Really handy tool to have! I'd highly recommend the TL866 II plus. It does a lot more than just program EEPROMs (but does that really well). You can test a variety of chips, even SRAM cache chips. I'd stay away from the really cheap ones out there.

Most people recommend a MiniPro TL866, I used it back when to dump Commodore cartridge ROMs. No idea on the EEPROM sources, though, I can't think of any places that sell DIPs off the top of my head.

Finally starting to (slowly) dig into that TRS-80 TC-8 tape device from JPC Products, circa 1980.
Reading the EPROM was a challenge; National Semi MM27C16Q was reading on my TL866 programmer, but verify (to confirm) was coming up with LOTS of different data, failing to verify.

Finally starting to (slowly) dig into that TRS-80 TC-8 tape device from JPC Products, circa 1980.

I have dumped the 2764 EPROM labelled ‘MOS 2.0 0.4/10’ with my TL866-II+. To be on the safe side, I did this three times and compared the results with HxD.

Wow, very well spotted. I had completely overlooked that. I will try to read out the EPROM with my TL866. I will also try to image the hard drive before digging deeper.

The left one is a 74 series. It will probably cost peanuts so it might be worth it to change it if it’s slightly corroded. It’s possible to test it with a TL866 if you’ve got one. The right one is a decoder / demux. If these two are damaged somehow that might explain the issues you’re seeing.

I'm trying to figure out these chips. a lock, of some sort, seems to have been put on the contents, and the TL866 'cant' clear it. The datasheet is a bit awkward to follow, they do some strange remapping stuff.
