I wrote a bit about incremental typechecking here:

dziban.net/posts/yabu-i...

in the context of the custom language, not yet of my new system.

I'd love to compare notes

Would love to exchange ideas about how you've tackled some things. I'm guessing since you are using js you don't have typechecking.

One of my previous explorations of this idea involved a custom programming language for agents and now I'm trying to bring those explorations into existing langs.

Last stop of the tour - then no more selfies - at least for some time ;)

Of course: New York! We'll be covering what we talked about on the past stops: agent safety, typesystem features that AIs can leverage to (partially) verify your code, and other ways #Scala works with LLMs.

I can guarantee there are NO checks the typescript's typesystem can't express.

I want to see somebody re-normalize this graph against *popularity*, btw. I'm absolutely sure that a language with more training-data in the wild will produce more agentic success.

Similarly, I'd love to then see a breakdown by *typesystem-feature*, normalized by popularity - are there any […]

æugh the enums in EBX are also weird

they just store an int but their type is a struct-like and the int is a field index there, and each field can basically be a wholeass type in itself

not 100% sure how i want to handle that in freon, maybe i'll have a separate typesystem array for enums

its fucked up how good claude is at fancy rust typesystem stuff despite not being able to reason its way out of a paper bag

I think JS / TS gives you the opportunity for tighter connection between the frontend and Backend, because they share the same language and typesystem

not really though. great lang, but all the casting, union polymorphism, void* and macro functions makes typing system helpful just half the way. not even talking about segfaults, just the got keep track of types of things because the typesystem is gone

dang, these kind of bug reports are always so fun to dig into!

This isn't quite trivial, but well… it works. a “transmute” in safe Rust: fn main() { let s: String = transmute(vec![65_u8, 66, 67]); println!("{s}"); // ABC } fn transmute<L, R>(x: L) -> R { trans...

my gripe with the #elixirlang typesystem is that if you want checking against structs in your function header, you must specify the struct module, which creates an extra map lookup in the function call

If you are familiar with TypeScript I'd recommend starting with that. Its incredibly expressive typesystem elevates the development experience, and it's convenient that JSON is native to the language. But if not, you'll still love it - being able to use a general-purpose language is delightful!

Typescript typesystem is just crazy... to think that they can solve the sudoku before the program execute 😂 (Or make doom run within TS typesystem)

I think this is definitely more 'people like to chat about typesystems' than making that much of a material difference for LLM-tooled programming. I doubt the difference between say, a C#-ish and a rust-ish typesystem matters, and I'd semi-weakly guess go/rust doesn't actually matter either.

we surface the typesystem violation as an error, the hard part is explaining to customers why they should stop doing that

Just merged a refactoring ensuring the code works on a hash value, and not any bytes value, by wrapping said value in a #rust enum (similar #fsharp DU). Fearless refactorings are so enjoyable, don't want to imagine doing it without assistance of the typesystem! github.com/asfaload/asf...
