#USDoE
Trump appointees may force the shutdown of large sections of USDOE website by COB today, according to a credible source. If you want to save anything, this may be last chance—if they follow through. 🔌💡

5) I imagine this one as the USDOE at the DMV. The DMV says, There is a form for that. Line 5.

But USDOE did not want to use the form 🙄

"[You] cannot make improvisatory changes to legal assurances and impose new requirements on recipients without adhering to rulemaking procedures. [See the law]."

Reviewing something with USDOE in it and WHY IS THE UNIVERSE TESTING ME TODAY?!?

6) Next up, as kind reader @iamarthurkotb.bsky.social put it, "Ouch!"

[Or, the USDOE as the Goldilocks of DEI. First bowl of porridge, all DEI! Second bowl of porridge, no DEI! What is just right?]

All of the news is driving me nuts. I am an special education administrator in a very poor district in the south. It has taken me 4 years to expand our department to meet the needs of our most vulnerable…students with disabilities. The thought of eliminating USDOE and cutting funding makes me sick.

This is Big! Courts have order the USDOE to stop sharing confidential information with DOGE. So many educators and others provided information to the USDOE for student loans. That information must be protected and not be shared with random people.

The USDOE has cut funding for more than a dozen language and culture programs at Indiana University, on the grounds that they "do not advance American interests or values."

IU has long been a leader in these fields, but something tells me--leadership won't push back.

Funding cut for IU programs that ‘do not advance American interests or values’
The U.S. Department of Education is ending funding for more than a dozen Indiana University programs that “do not advance American interests or values,” according to a Sept. 10 letter. The loss of fun...

Rally at the USDOE with speakers including public ed advocates, an illegally fired DOE worker, parents and teachers, a Georgetown student who wouldn’t be there w/o public schools and DOE programs, Rep. Mark Takano & more. #SpeakUp4Ed

so this is fun: i have some errors on data reports i submit to usdoe and am pretty sure the errors are misfiring on ed’s end but of course the contract has been axed - and i *think* the tech stuff was run by the contractor so ed can’t fix it lol

In a culture of austerity and with a USDOE that is cutting spending, teachers are likely to be assigned more students. When class sizes grow, students get less attention, and positions can be cut.
Trump May Soon Defy Congress and Cut $5 Billion More From Schools
Funding for migrant education, English-learner services, professional development, and after-school programming is at risk.

2) Summarizing, (& playfully para-quoting), We already certified that we follow the law, as recently as Jan ‘25! SOOOOO, what are you doing?

“NYSED is unaware of any authority that USDOE has to demand that [we] agree to [what you say just because you say it] without formal administrative process.”

What does the U.S. Department of Education NOT do? Set curriculum - that’s all up to state and local school districts. #education #edpolicy #usdoe #ed #commoncore

Great summary of the importance of USDOE 👇
🧵 If you’re applauding the abolishment of the Department of Education, you need to do a little research. You have ZERO clue what the DOE actually does.

Here’s a reality check on what the Department of Education actually does:

OMG... perfect reason why there needs to be a USDOE.

I haven't forgotten about my offer to shared my phone recordings in relation to the USDoE complaint I'd made that they "investigated". That stuff's still pretty raw and often avoidance has been my cope. It's still something I'd like to share if it might end up helping others somehow.

Tell your GOP-voting friends that USDOE does more to fund education in rural communities than they may think.

Or at least it used to.

A good primer on #geothermal (both low-temp #heatpump - assisted and high-temp including power generation. Reports to download - maybe act now (USDOE source) although the trumpers don't seem so negative on geothermal

Among the shockers from the FOIA to the USDoE: a uni risk assessment team had gone digging for dirt on me (none!) at prior unis I'd attended - while never investigating what I'd reported. My chair wrote people in the dept that I'd violated cease & desist orders when I'd never been sent even one.

And yet our USDOE funded grant was canceled effective yesterday at 5 pm.

The DOE oversees our nuclear stockpile via NNSA—which means a non-background-checked 20-something gaining USDOE IT access could be all it takes for Russia, North Korea, or Iran to get a front-row seat to our nuclear security. Feeling safe yet?
February 7, 2025 at 12:20 AM
And there it is. The USDOE is gone
So...this just happened.

It's time to get organised, call your reps and demand the department of Education be protected because this rhetoric must stop RIGHT NOW!

Never give up until this fascism is defeated!
