Actually the 50~100ms number was wrong since it included part of the V4L2 wait.
On my Ryzen 3600 A770 desktop in a synthetic benchmark I have 35ms on CPU and 0.3ms on GPU.
Tested vivid to do V4L2 → dma-buf → gpu processing → output.
Vs vivid V4L2 → cpu processing → output.

i managed to get the Lego Studios camera (046d:0850 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Web) under linux working! sort of. v4l2 recognizes it, you can adjust exposure and gain (and nothing else), but no modern webcam software seems to work with it... except fswebcam which can capture single 356x292 images!

I fixed my first Linux kernel issue by fixing a bug in videobuf2-vmalloc.
The second issue might be a bad interaction with some AMDGPU quirk. The DMABUF I'm passing to v4l2 comes from VRAM and I _think_ AMDGPU unmaps the virtual memory when it's being used by the GPU.
So it's missing a sync?
