I'm mapping the Lightning Creek Fire at roughly 1,500 acres as of the 4am VIIRS satellite pass, basically exactly what I was estimating based on column photos, terrain/fuel and GOES-West imagery below. #IdahoFire
Here's the GOES-West Fire temp view of the Lightning Creek Fire through sunset. The fire hasn't bedded down yet.
The last estimate was 250 acres, the most recent predictive model predicted 500 acres or so today, depending on when it beds, I think possibly up to 2,000 acres on this run. #IdahoFire

Based on video of missile arrivals, footage of a sustained large fire, and corroborating VIIRS thermal satellite imagery, my analysis is that the primary target of the Iranian strike was Building 262 (CTF-55 / CDS-50 Headquarters) at Naval Support Activity Bahrain in Manama.

One from the archives. The first 6 months of VIIRS Day Night Band data, an instrument sensitive enough to see snow by starlight. Rendered in Cinema4D with a physically based atmosphere shader. I put *a lot* of work into the clouds, and how they would appear from space at night.

Black Marble Nighttime Lights Blue/Yellow Composite is a false-color composite map based on VIIRS Day/Night Band and thermal band (M15).
