#Virotherapy
Srsly tho virotherapy is ridiculously promising and the most exciting thing going in cancer therapies right now. In a decade or two, we may live in a world where many cancers are cured with a few months of weekly injections that don't do much worse than give you flu syptoms.

That's INSANE.

Found out about virotherapy as cancer treatment, HOLY FUCK

BIOLOGY IS SO COOL

Today on ethical conundrums... a virologist with locally recurrent muscle-invasive breast cancer performed intratumoral oncolytic virotherapy to treat the cancer. Using viruses she prepared in her own lab.

Plot twist: it worked (maybe)

More info: There is *no evidence* that having a measles infection or receiving the standard measles vaccine protects against future cancer. The origin of this misconception is likely based on ongoing research (genetically engineered measles virus as a direct cancer therapy, oroncolytic virotherapy)

🥳Happy to share our article on oncolytic virotherapy and T-cell responses influencing outcomes. Key insights: timing of therapy, anticancer T-cell activity, and the diffusion of immune signals all play complex roles, sometimes reducing effectiveness. #Spatialmodel #oncolyticvirus #Stochasticity 💻🎉

To elaborate: oncolytic virotherapy is a type of treatment where cancers are directly infected with viruses in the hopes that the immune response to the virus can result in destruction of the tumor. Currently there are several of these in trials.

The potential of oncolytic virotherapy, long discussed in scientific circles, has been dramatically illustrated in one of the most prominent cases of self-treatment.

A scientist, facing a third cancer recurrence, achieved remission through a self-administered viral therapy.

The challenge here is... though this is promising, and the field of oncolytic virotherapy as a whole is promising, we have to be very careful about drawing strong conclusions from a single case report. We have no way of knowing that this procedure actually improved outcomes.
