A recent study by Rightway Parking has identified the most stressful airports in the United States based on delay and cancellation rates, as well as travel time to downtown areas. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport emerged as the most stressful, with a delay rate of 27.86 percent and a cancellation rate of 2.76 percent, located 26 minutes from downtown Dallas. Chicago's O'Hare International followed closely with a 24.68 percent delay rate and 1.73 percent cancellation rate, though it is significantly farther from downtown at 50 minutes. Ronald Reagan Washington National, serving the Washington, D.C. area, ranked third with a 24.69 percent delay rate and a higher cancellation rate of 3.86 percent, despite being only 16 minutes from downtown. New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport came in fourth with a 20.77 percent delay rate and 2.02 percent cancellation rate, while Philadelphia International Airport, ranked fifth, had a slightly higher delay rate of 23.40 percent and a cancellation rate of 2.09 percent, but was only 20 minutes from downtown. The study analyzed over 50 major U.S. airports, with Dallas/Fort Worth handling over 7.38 million passengers in August alone. These airports are among the busiest in the country, with millions of travelers passing through annually. The findings highlight the growing challenges faced by travelers in major metropolitan areas, where airport congestion and operational inefficiencies contribute significantly to travel stress. The report underscores the need for improved infrastructure and operational strategies to reduce delays and cancellations, which directly impact passenger experience and satisfaction.
