In June 1978, flew Duluth to Montreal, north to Frobisher Bay (Iqaluit) via Pangnirtung, on to Broughton Island. Slept at the weather office in Frobisher for free in return for plotting weathermaps and helping with pilot briefings!

Supercritical melting
Short, dumb and quite political strip today.Not the first one about Shoggies and Global warming. And,alas not the last.We are currently in the hottest day ever recorded in Franceafter a week of temperature more than 10-15° above average,and there are still shoggies arguing aboutthe use of red color in weathermaps that may scare population.At least, they've dropped the "fake change" motto.But they now want AC everywhere.
Anyway, "Minions and Monsters" has been released here, and will be out in the US next week.More about the cration of the project, and my own view on the film soon!

Some of the U.S. forecasters were familiar with European’s advances. While fronts were not analyzed on USWB weathermaps until 8-1-1941, I have found examples of forecasters putting kinks in the isobars where the fronts would be, and slip it by the ‘goal tenders” as far back as 1936!

Growing up in Westport, CT as a 9 year old, I anxiously awaited the January 2nd edition of the New York Times that would feature the temperature graph of the previous year. This was the inspiration of my graphs all these years later, and my love of weathermaps!

I got it as a kid as well in the mid/late ‘60’s. David Ludlum was still heavily involved with Weatherwise. I loved the thumbnail daily weathermaps of the latest 2 months available before publication. After the USWB went from daily to weekly subscription, the thumbnail maps went away (heartbroken!).

And now a record breaking *mean* 135 as well as the record gusts. (my brother in NZ who subscribes to all the usual newsfeeds got no hint of this, btw, and after I sent him some weathermaps he trawled about and struggled to find coverage. odd)
