We did a lot of archaeological survey in northern Qatar. When we found dead camels we’d sometimes take their skulls and mount them on our gate. Until one day some pesky zooarch stole them. 👿

Great to welcome a former MSc student back to the Zooarch collection today 🦴

Alex Waterman completed his MSc with us a few years ago and now works as a field archaeologist at PCAS Archaeology. He made the most of the RICHeS open days to refresh his zooarch skills. Bravo, Alex!

One of those moments when I really wish I were still in my zooarch lab. Like every other moment. 😪🦴 #2026MMM
Meanwhile in the Kalahari, Giraffe is getting his vitamins, "gnawing on a still-greasy wildebeest bone." The unalived wildebeest's left scapula juts partially out from the giraffe's side to side chewing as profuse saliva drips from Giraffe's lips (Hutson et al. 2013) #2026MMM

Pooka always ‘helping’ with my zooarch work … he takes his apprenticeship quite seriously, checking the bone boxes to ensure enough room and protection!

A truly awful decision. I participated in one of the short courses (Zooarch II) this year & it was exceptional! Extraordinary instructors, intense learning & community-building. The decision needs reversing
@sheffielduni.bsky.social management should be ashamed. #RIPshortcourses #Zooarchaeology🏺🧪🦊 🪶
We're sad to inform you that management at the University of Sheffield has asked us to discontinue our very popular #zooarchaeology shortcourses. Unfortunately one of our most enlightening piece of community engagement, which also brought funds to manage our labs, has gone @sheffielducu.bsky.social
