Wow this story is third top on the Times homepage must be serious. And no matter your views on VAT on school fees, it definitely seems to be an interesting trend that says something about society and incentives and honesty? Right? A third of parents are lying??? According to “ANALYSIS”?

Of those who lied (28% of parents) apparently 30% pretended to live at a friend’s house. So a tenth of all UK parents are registering at a friends’ house to get their kid into school? This is just obviously bullshit!

Of those who lied (28% of parents) apparently 30% pretended to live at a friend’s house. So a tenth of all UK parents are registering at a friends’ house to get their kid into school? This is just obviously bullshit!

What was this first company, you ask? He wrote a code that scraped property info from Rightmove and Zoopla, worked out if houses were going cheaper than average for the area, and sold that data to landlords.

I think one thing here as well is that houses worth more than £1m are just about common enough that people will spot them on rightmove and zoopla, but the difference between a £1m house and a £2m house is huge

Class prejudice in the UK is very powerful. For example, you can buy this flat, sure, it’s pretty, but you have a commercial leaseholder and you have absolutely zero way of knowing what they’re like until you’re stuck with them:

12% of their whole "sample" had withdrawn their kids from private schools due to the cost. Given that only 6-7% attend private schools in the first place that's impressive.
