tbh a lot of slugs in the Acanthodoris genus smell like sandalwood. Acanthodoris rhodoceras does as well, another candidate for your shower nudis

More tidepooling: orange peel nudibranch, Acanthodoris lutea! This species eats basically only one species of bryozoan. Lives from Cape Arago, Oregon, down to northern Baja from 0-50 meters on rocky shores. 📸Olympus TG6, Half Moon Bay, CA.

One of the fun things about tidepooling is running into other people who like looking closely at the weird wonders of the world -- a gaggle of local science teachers were crawling over the rocks too, and one of them showed me this orange-peel doris (Acanthodoris lutea)

I've called these the Yellow Margin Dorid for a while, but upon researching further it turns out it's the Hudson’s Dorid (Acanthodoris hudsoni). Regardless, they're both adorable little PNW residents

#speciesaday no. 545 is Acanthodoris pilosa, a sea slug. I have just 3 records of 6 individuals - all from Eastbourne (4 were on Sat night!). Usually comes in white (always makes me think of cloudy lemonade) but Evan found this amazing black one too. Gills more noticeable in this one.

Some great rook pooling nr Mansands today with 2 new species for me with several commoner species. These are 2 Amphorina andra and a single Acanthodoris pilosa. The A. andra were found in seaweed root mass feeding on Knotted Thread Hydroid Obelia geniculata (shown in photo 5). #nudibranch #rockpool

And at the height of my powerfulness(osity) I found! The cutest slug!!

This is an orange-peel dorid (Acanthodoris lutea), also known as a sandalwood dorid (because apparently that's what they smell like! Wild! There's a whole world of chemosensory stuff going on there that I know nothing about!)
