I'm almost there it's so pretty!! 😭

this is the first time I've made extensive use of complex numbers in shader code, which has been fun!

it's an analytic 2D lighting system through piecewise conformal maps representing angular light/"sky" exposure, which means you get fully analytic penumbras!

The old line that analytic philosophy is answering questions that come naturally to toddlers via methods that come naturally to lawyers remains undefeated.
It is sorta a funny thing about philosophy that the questions are inherently fascinating and exciting—there’s a reason people wind up talking about this stuff in dorm rooms—and the best methods we have for investigating them involve being as tedious and pedantic and boring as possible

Apropos of my post about analytic philosophy...
I for one am tired of the “all of human existence should be quantified into spreadsheets, and things that cannot be quantified should be viewed as irrelevant and useless” faction running everything
I think a problem with EA, even with what it said it purported to be at the beginning, is the process of turning all human endeavors into a spreadsheet.

Once that happens, no local charity or small arts organization stands a chance at justifying their existence, no individual human matters.

Such an analytic-coded statement. ;-)
I do think one thing people who don't regularly do philosophy research don't really understand is how little reading is actually required to do it

Yes, I'm nonbinary (neither analytic nor continental)

analytic philosophers must be stopped
OK, but what if a psychic predicted how many boxers you were going to wear and secretly fed you a laxative if and only if they predicted that you were going to wear more than one?

this is the worst I've seen happen to someone in a panel and I am an analytic philosopher
Time to post the video where an ex of hers is on a C-SPAN panel with her and calls her a sadist to her face

Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
Analytic Philosopher 1: Attempts to describe the cup's fullness are only evaluable relative to a context of assessment
Analytic Philosopher 2: no that's wrong
Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
STS researcher: The cup is an affordance
Optimist: The cup is half full
Pessimist: The cup is half empty
Cosmologist: The cup is dusty or full of gravitational waves

analytic philosopher here, can confirm
“Practitioners of analytic philosophy will be aware that the charge of absurdity or incoherence is not an uncommon or even an unjust criticism of many claims made within their own discipline.”

@ramoran.bsky.social on the Boghossian report on the humanities:
The Wrong Way to Criticize the Humanities
A recent report, commissioned by the chancellors of Vanderbilt and Washington University, invites further intrusions on scholarly self-governance.

150 years of analytic philosophy in 1 post
Gravity seems pretty reliable, but it’s only a theory. Don’t trust it

wow analytic philosophy catching strays today
reading a paper which is just a tower of factional definitions upon which they have balanced a single paragraph of argumentation

The nicest thing an analytic philosopher can say to another analytic philosopher
Begrudgingly admire the consistency

once again analytic philosophy is the anglosphere's ideological curse
If you haven't been involved in academic philosophy this might come as a surprise but academic philosophy as a discipline is _shockingly_ full of right-wingers, like, business school levels of conservatives infesting and running the discipline
Oh my god the Arif Ahmed/Kathleen Stock email correspondence. It sure looks like he was pursuing a vendetta against Sussex for a personal friend bsky.app/profile/nate...

my most analytic moral philosopher thought is that this discourse would really benefit from a distinction between rights and virtues

Analytic philosophers: Moral intuitions, gut feelings and the like should be the grounds of all normative political judgements

Everyone: Free Luigi!

Analytic philosophers: No, not like that

See, entry 3 in the bibliography is "Analytic and Algebraic Topology of Locally Euclidean Metrizations of Infinitely Differentiable Riemannian Manifolds" by one N. Lobachevsky.

And if you've ever heard Leher's song "Lobachevsky", you may have just finished that title with "Bozhe moi!"
