Together with @gnomoboleto.bsky.social we kicked off the first PALPROX Doctoral Network School at CeNT, University of Warsaw!

Nine doctoral candidates will explore how to study the small mammal fossil record, including through #ancientDNA analyses.

A man buried in an oak boat at Fallward, northern Germany, in the second quarter of the 5th century CE carried Mycobacterium leprae in his heel and a molar. His skeleton shows no leprosy lesions at all.

But archaeology alone cannot tell us where a buried person’s ancestors came from, or how populations mixed across generations.

This is where #ancientDNA adds a complementary layer of evidence, allowing us to connect ancestry with the social context reconstructed by archaeology.

Did you know that the Shiba Inu descends from one of Asia's oldest canine lineages? Its ancestors were the Jōmon #dogs, which reached the Japanese archipelago about 9,300 years ago alongside Jōmon peoples, including the Ainu. #ancientdna #genetics #history

Genetic analysis of 30,000‑year‑old remains shows that Ice Age European groups exchanged genes across continental distances, contradicting the notion of isolated hunter‑gatherer pockets.

Prof. Wiesław Bogdanowicz (MIZ PAS) on paleogenetics: were the people buried in medieval stone-lined graves in Mazovia locals or newcomers? Ancient DNA helps answer that.

They say the Molossus of Epirus vanished centuries ago. Some even say millennia.
So why is the Epirus Mastiff still recognized today by the Greek Kennel Club?
Because this ancient livestock guardian never truly disappeared. #dogs #lgds #History #genetics #Greece #ancientdna

People were riding and milking horses over 5,000 years ago.

That is centuries before the DOM2 lineage spread around 2200 BC. Which find would you trust to prove it?

Horse domestication in Eurasia began centuries earlier than thought, study argues
A Science Advances study argues that people rode, milked and managed horses in the 4th millennium BC, long before the spread of the DOM2 lineage around 2200 BC.

New in Science: Hawaiʻi and Rapa Nui sit about 7,000 km apart, yet genomes make them each other’s closest relatives in Polynesia, with ancestral roots in Mangareva. Here is what the data can and cannot say. #Polynesia #AncientDNA #Anthropology www.anthropology.net/p/polynesian...

Whole-genome data link Hawaiʻi and Rapa Nui to shared ancestral roots in Mangareva, with bottlenecks stronger than the Finnish or Amish cases.

Four ancient genomes from Salango, Ecuador, point to stable ancestry on the Pacific coast across 1,500 years. I explain why the continuity is plausible but unproven, and why the 9,800-year split date needs care. #AncientDNA #Ecuador #Archaeology www.anthropology.net/p/4-ancient-...
4 Ancient Ecuador Genomes Hint at 1,500 Years of Continuity
Four low-coverage genomes from Salango suggest stable ancestry for 1,500 years, but the eruption claim and the 9,800-year split date need caution.
