politics isn't astrophysics; it's harder.
I don’t really think “not a politician” should be a selling point for a candidate. The job is politician. I want to elect someone who understands that job and is good at it and also is not a dirtbag. We have seen how catastrophic it is to make “not a politician” the priority over “not a dirtbag.”

Using the Astrophysical Data System, Jürgen Knödlseder does an analysis that shows that Europe has the largest astronomy community and that if current growth rates continue, by 2029, China's will be the largest in the world. By 2043, India will be second. 🔭🧪
Demographics and growth of the astronomy and astrophysics community
This paper presents the demographics and growth of the astronomy and astrophysics community over the past ~200 years based on data provided by the Astrophysics Data System. The analysis suggests that ...

The voyager missions are so damn cool, man. One thing I am curious about is what information we're actually getting back from them? I tried googling but there are few answers for laypeople who aren't versed in astrophysics
Voyager 1 is now about 1 light day away from home, almost 17 billion miles. 49 years into the 87 year half life of its Pu238, there are only a few more years of sufficient wattage expected from the radioisotope thermal generators to maintain communication. I am not going to be ready to say goodbye.

Modern astronomy/astrophysics would literally have been impossible without Henrietta Leavitt and Cecilia Payne.
If these women worked for Hegseth at the "War" department, he would fire them as DEI hires.

Thanks for the info. I was unfamiliar with these women.
Henrietta Leavitt (literally added the 3rd dimension to the Universe), Cecilia Payne (discovered what the Universe is made of), Emmy Noether (contributed the single most important idea in physics), Chien-Shiung Wu, Maria Goeppert-Mayer…

Great day for astronomy / astrophysics / cosmology yesterday too. A Type 1a supernova is one of the events we use to measure how far away galaxies are far out in the universe…

I stuck with an astrophysics degree in college because an ass of a professor told me I was too "emotional" for science and should pick a different major.

(For the record, I had the highest GPA in the f'ing department, but I cried one time, so...)

Well for one thing, since 1958 far more Americans have been awarded astrophysics phds than have been elected to Congress. Like more than triple.
