Hurricane Melissa looks like a solid 150 kt storm, the hunters ended their mission early and have reported severe turbulence likely from meso vorts within the storm.

#HurricaneMelissa #Melissa is an extremely dangerous #Category5 storm #AtlanticHurricaneSeason #TropicalCyclone

El Nino may have more to say about this as the #Atlantichurricaneseason opens in June.
FEMA is now less than useless to look to for help after the storms, as is Trump-gutted NOAA at keeping us advised.

Tropical Storm Fay Forms Near the Azores but Currently Poses No Threat to Land
Tropical Storm Fay formed in the northern Atlantic on the morning of Sunday, September 20, 2026, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. The storm was located approximately 450 miles southwest of the Azores, a group of nine Portuguese islands in the North Atlantic Ocean. Fay had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, placing it within the tropical-storm category rather than hurricane status. Tropical storms have sustained winds between 39 and 73 mph, while hurricanes require winds of at least 74 mph. Some additional strengthening was expected in the short term, but forecasters indicated that Fay was likely to weaken and dissipate later in the week. At the time of the report, Fay posed no threat to land, and no coastal watches or warnings were in effect. The storm was also roughly 2,400 miles from the U.S. East Coast, making significant effects on the United States unlikely. Although isolated adjustments to transatlantic flight routes were possible, no major or widespread travel disruptions were expected. The article also reviewed previous storms named Fay. A 2008 tropical storm reached winds of 70 mph and made four Florida landfalls. In 2014, Hurricane Fay became a Category 1 hurricane and affected Bermuda. Another tropical storm named Fay formed in 2020, reached winds of 60 mph, and contributed to approximately $220 million in damage, including impacts in the northeastern United States. Despite its lower wind speeds, Fay could still produce heavy rain, flooding, or storm surge in areas it affects.
