Random thought about the Superbowl ad: It's not lost on me that the pregnant protagonist in it is a white woman. 🥚 #adoption #BabyScoopEra

I'm an adoptee in communication with many others in the adoptee community. Many of us did not "need" to be relinquished b/c of any danger, but were procured for adoption through coercion or even fraud. Coercion for many, esp from the #BabyScoopEra. Fraud not uncommon for international adoptees.

The Baby Scoop Era was unacknowledged identity theft and multigenerational trauma for millions of adoptees and their children.

🎯🎯🎯 A mother having *no choice* but to surrender her infant is described by the #Adoption Indu$try as “making an adoption plan”. Disgusting. My first mother did not make an adoption plan for me, she cried uncle, a trauma so great she did not remember it. 🧾

instead of “how much she must have loved you to give you up” why not try “how sick must a society be to leave her with no choice but to relinquish her own child to strangers” 🧾

They took us away and destroyed our paper.
They gave us falsified birth certificates. Today courts note a shortage in the "domestic supply of infants" & ban abortion.
We know where this goes. 🥚

So many stories from the Baby Scoop Era of fathers telling their young pregnant daughters not to bring their shame home. But those babies grew up and thanks to DNA we are on the family tree and we are reassigning the shame to them for not protecting their daughter and grandchild. #babyscoopera

Between 1945–1973, up to 4 million babies were taken from unmarried mothers, shamed and silenced by families, faith, and society. We are not a shame. We are the truth they tried to hide. #BabyScoopEra

Not surprised. Most people do not know much about adoption history. Adoption coercion was common during the #BabyScoopEra, and it's what some anti-choicers like ACB want to return to.

Adoption Ruins and Unearthed Tokens: Baby Scoop Era Adoption Memoir
As far back as she could remember, Shirley Munro had always known that she was adopted. What she didn’t know, at first, was how those two words, “you’re adopted,” were layered in mystery, forbidden identity, deceptions, and wishful fairytales -- and then covered up with “in your best interest.” This memoir has been lovingly stitched together with poetry, anecdotal storytelling, soul-stirring recollections, and histories.
