I don't mean to say that his fortunes changed after he met Kubrick. He was very successful! But his all-time great comic performances were in Dr Strangelove and Lolita. (I like Clouseau as much as the next man, but I think the films are generally quite bad.)

I think everything you said is going to be much more effective at convincing people their childhood fandom is bad and worth dropping, rather than we're rating them and saying same tired (but true) things about JK Rowling.
