Our 20K newspapers today were double the size — packed with civic election profiles for the Oct. 17 vote, as well as local stories and great photos for New West, Burnaby and Tri-City readers. And our Oct. 15 edition will be just as weighty, with a focus on the provincial election on Oct. 24

Yeah, Vancouver is annoying like that. IIRC you can only vote (locally) in the municipality you're a part of. Caused me trouble a lot when I lived in Burnaby.

New extra-heavy Freshet News issues out today packed full of municipal election coverage and so much more - check your local pickup locations for info on candidates! The election coverage inserts are specific to the city you grab your paper in!

When I lived in West Vancouver, BC I would watch the crows firm up to fly to Burnaby where they spent the night together.

Canada wants to tap into Asia massive need for oil while tries to block asia.

Right now, one pipeline: the Trans Mountain system (TMX). It carries Alberta crude about 1,150 km from Edmonton to the Westridge Marine Terminal in Burnaby, BC, where tankers load for Asia and the US West Coaster
Carney announces the crude oil pipeline to the West Coast, which will almost certainly drive the orcas there to extinction, is designated in the “national interest.”

That means it can bulldoze past environmental laws, impact assessments and Indigenous consultation.

He laughs while announcing it.

Finally got my hands on a copy of this double LP (at Rick Roll Records in North Burnaby!) and it's deliciously ominous for October. youtu.be/RIrLjAq8eUc

This week our class went to Burnaby Village Museum to learn from its curator, Jane Lemke. We talked about exhibit design, accessibility, and the role of museums in decolonization. Our students also got to think about how the type of space affects how you might exhibit a collection.

Well, that’s fine in a big city like Saskatoon, but I don’t know about a sleepy village like Burnaby Heights
If Saskatoon can have bus lanes downtown, why can't we? #yyj #bctransit

Today’s Alt #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Vivid; any bird with bright colours

I chose the the male Wood Duck, shot yesterday at Burnaby Lake Park, BC Canada. They are the most colorful birds around here right now that I've seen.

#Beaver hut? at Burnaby Lake Park. This is fairly new but I'm not sure if it's a beaver structure.

But fuck us in BC, who'll be the ones to pay the consequences when it eventually leaks.

We still remember Burnaby 2007.
“Today, we’re ready to move forward for Albertans, for Canadians,” says PM Mark Carney in Fort McMurray, Alta., as he announces his government is officially listing the West Coast oil pipeline as a project of national interest.

In practice, there isn't much difference between these European examples and what Burnaby did in Metrotown or what New Westminster did around city center after the Expo Line was built.

It’s the inevitable consequence of passage of time and doing a job well, but the former was sort of nice

there are journalistic advantages to the latter though, I think my analysis has gotten somewhat better with time, and it’s nice not living in a Burnaby basement suite with $30k in student debt
