Girolamo Giuseffi decided to throw it all at this gown. It needed cut velvet panels, lace, chiffon overlays, net, rhinestones and silk covered baubles. He also decided that electric blue & cream would make the most vivid impression & he wasn’t wrong. Gown c1912 #newfieldstoday #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

'Evening, Arbroath.' (c1912) James Watterston Herald painted predominantly in watercolour, working in a very wet manner to create atmospheric blots and puddles, within his evocative depictions of rainy city streets. He's often compared to the brilliant Arthur Melville.

Ooh the drama! This evening dress feels as if it is demanding of attention with its oversized sparkling swirls and aqua silk underskirt. It is some parts sheer, some parts obscured. Created by Worth c1912 @ngvmelbourne.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Described as a tea dress, this gown would likely not have been worn outside of the home. Yet what a beauty it is, lacy and embellished in ethereal shades. I hope that the wearer enjoyed its flow of fabric and textured surfaces, c1912 #ngvmelbourne #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Described as a tea dress, the unstructured nature of this gown lends it the kind of informality typical of c1912, no matter how grand it may appear to the modern eye. My tea would not have been safe wearing white lace, spills would be inevitable @ngvmelbourne.bsky.social #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡
