It's a great point, but it was the 1960s not the 1970s when this was so. The latter was called the Great Recession and had high unemployment, massive layoffs, & skyrocketing inflation. The Rustbelt was devastated & never recovered.
Dad was a research chemist, & Mom went back to work in the 70s.

Always knew the physicist was the dirtiest of the scientists, but surprised and heartened at the integrity and honor of the chemist.

I have learned that there are multiple Matthews Francis who are authors, thanks to author scam emails targeting them. I know there's a chemist Matthew Francis and a violent homophobe Matthew Francis as well, but let's not talk about that last one please.
I feel lucky because as far as I can tell most of my public name doppelgängers are, oddly enough, soccer players. Maybe that's why I have no sports skills. The other Brees took it all.
One of my low-level fears is that one of my many name-dopplegangers will do something to become a Main Character at some point.
OTOH, I didn't catch more than one or two strays when the Daily Mail sent their thugs to bully the friend-of-Meghan "Daniel Martin" off Twitter ~7 years ago.

To be fair, and as a research chemist, I don't understand the demand for our own clothes/shoes to be used as PPE. If I am working with dangerous materials, I expect proper PPE from my employer; relying on employees/students buying trainers to potentially be ruined is expensive and not H&S compliant.
