Y copyleft!! Que no hace falta ni ir robando contenido por ahí

On one hand hewing to legalism due to copyleft being fundamentally based on copyright law as a greatest common denominator makes pragmatic sense.

On the other hand, what the fuck?

lineread: a reimplementation of the GNU-licensed C readline as MIT-licensed in Rust

historically, rewriting in a different language was solid proof against plagiarism, but this is clearly intended to be plagiarized

and it works, very well

Do you think a license like AGPL already implies that that work cannot be used as training data for genAI? Since it's copyleft, then the source code of the model and all its training data should be released under a compatible license, right?

On my point about the tests not being necessary for rewriting software: This is readline reimplemented against synthetic tests that the agent first created against the original readline. Basically a GPL to MIT laundromat. github.com/mitsuhiko/li...

Ich meine, dass Claude etc. regelmäßig mit OSS trainiert wurden. Dadurch kann der output ggf mit Copyleft infiziert werden. Und dann hat man eine VÖ Pflicht, die den Geheimnisschutz schwierig macht.

aaaaaaaaaaa should my stuff be copyleft or public domain I just cannot decide

congrats tho

Lo de la música es una gilipollez. El propio YT tiene una galería de música copyleft. No tienes ni que ir a buscarla a otro lado.

Why I used to prefer permissive licenses and now favor copyleft

How to say that you don't understand economics / copyleft / P2P sharing without saying it.
Free cultural spread of media allied to paid purchase of work is fine. That was the old model. A blend.

Replacing it all with normalised piracy, and all the money going to platforms and distributors has wrecked the idea of creative careers completely.

🍴 Open source licenses are generous about code and stingy about everything else. Fork the plugin, sure. Its name, its directory listing and a seat at the table aren't in the box. courtneyr.dev/2026/1... #opensource #WordPress
How do open source licenses work, and what do they leave out?
An open source license is permission from the people who hold the copyright. Here is what that permission covers, how permissive and copyleft licenses differ, who can change a license, and what no license decides.

Now AI coding agents can easily hijack another developer's work. What's worse, permissive licensing doesn't, by its nature, prevent those kinds of theft. OSS developers have made a difficult decision to transition to copyleft licensing.

Copyleft can set clearer terms for reuse, while an agent reaching outside its workspace raises a separate access-control problem. The licensing shift makes sense as a way to protect reciprocity. Better sandboxing still matters at the moment code is read.

the same time the owner of the original IP doesn't get free license to your derivative work; it's why, legally speaking, no author or IP owner can admit to, say, reading fanfic of their work unless they give it their blessing in advance and have some kind of copyleft sort of thing happening where if

the asahi team unfortunately have the right to GPL their stuff, which probably kills *BSD-on-AS projects.

the concept of intellectual property incentivizes omarchy-style hit-and-run and that's why the entire copyright system is flawed and copyleft doesn't fix this hit-and-run.
November 8, 2026 at 6:48 AM
The sharpest friction wasn't the algorithm, but the license. The creator framed AGPL as an intentional barricade to stop big tech from absorbing the code for free. Several commenters pushed back, warning that copyleft on a CLI tool often just stops developers from using it at work. #opensource 3/4

my opinion is:
you shouldn't be able to own ideas. intellectual property is a cancer, copyright as follows too.
i say this as a person that was (is but i don't know what my stance is atm) very pro gpl and copyleft.
if you want to copy any of what i put on the internet, do it, feel free.
