1. The bottom line: SARS-CoV-2 only emerged in late 2019. No-one can know the long-term effects of repeated infections, but with anosmia and cognitive dysfunction as common symptoms, the assumption I make is that there is a tsunami of early-onset neurocognitive diseases coming.

A 2022 South Korean study found twice as many reported COVID-19 cases as expected (138 actual vs ~60 expected) following an outdoor university festival. The concert area had a capacity of 12,000. Actual infections may have been higher due to gaps in self-reporting via the university's app.

I could honestly scream. It's almost 2027, IPAC still uses droplet precautions for airborne illnesses like Covid, no one is masking in even the most obvious places like hospitals, public health has never even uttered the words Long Covid or ME, and all of the emphasis is still only on handwashing.

Lindsay Briggs, professor of public health by Breathe This
For this episode we spoke with Dr. Lindsay Briggs, a professor of public health and a longtime masking advocate. Dr. Briggs (she/her) is a queer tenured faculty member of Native descent in the Department of Public Health (PBHL) at California State University, Chico. Dr. Briggs graduated from Indiana University’s School of Public Health in 2011 and holds both a Ph.D. in Health Behavior and an MPH with a concentration in Behavioral Health. Lindsay has pursued feminism, equity, and social justice her entire life and is passionate about working across disciplines to promote social justice in the field of public health.Dr Briggs's doctoral research focused on the societal response to HIV/AIDS and she discussed the similarities she's seeing with COVID-19. She is one of the few instructors on her campus who masks in class, and she shares some of the experiences and insights she's had as she tries to teach her students about good public health practices. She also runs a nonprofit farm that accepts and cares for older animals. Briggs is a delightful guest and advocate and we were thrilled to be able to speak with her.
