I really, really want to stop agreeing with the pope.

But Holbein’s move to London coincided with reformers like Anne Boleyn and Thomas Cranmer arguing for the destruction of religious art. Cranmer even wanted to burn crucifixes, like the one Holbein shows peeping out from behind the green curtain.

Cranmer, Jewel, Hooker, Andrewes
The four Latin Doctors of the Church are: Augustine, Ambrose, Jerome, and Gregory the Great.

If you had to name four Anglican “Doctors” in the same spirit (so spanning no more than two centuries), who might they be? 🤔 ⚓️

It’s because Evangelicals think everyone else in Christianity is a fake Christian. Until they suddenly need a hero of the faith, when Luther, the Pilgrims, or Cranmer all count.

We’ve come a long way from Thomas Cranmer 📕
a substantial number of Episcopalians are most wary of language which strikes them as abstract

Spent endless hours through my childhood hearing the Episcopal rites (Thos. Cranmer version) and weekly sermons (local minister version).

Impressed and grateful right now that an Episcopal bishop is setting a moral-leadership standard. At the National Cathedral.

Other faiths, take this as a cue.
Why isn't every Dem social media feed in the country elevating Budde's call-out of Trump right now?
Bishop Mariann Budde's extraordinary sermon calling out Trump also gives Dems language to highlight his coming immigration horrors. Its impact shows there's still a way to reach people's decency and humanity.

On the pod, we dig into this. Listen in this link:

folks will be googling Thomas Cranmer and the Book of Common Prayer tonight
curious to see if the Budde Incident leads to a surge in interest in the Episcopal Church.

not my circus, not my monkeys, but it sorta seems like a bunch of left-to-center Americans miss something shaped roughly like Catholicism

In memory of John Cranmer Cambridge, a London County Council clerk, who died on this day in 1901 in an act of heroic self-sacrifice. He is remembered in the memorial established by the artist George Frederic Watts in Postman's Park, the City of London.

Amazing to see this sticker in the year 2025. Let not Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley die in vain!

Please vote Cranmer 😭 📕
I didnt vote during yesterdays #lentmadness because I forgot, and I think its wild that Peter won over Paul. (Even though I love st Peter so very much!)

Anyway, today somehow Hooker is beating Cranmer and I am genuinely MAD. *screams in BCP*
