#dapsone
I also think conspiracy theories make it difficult to navigate actually having experienced a very rare side effect to drugs/vax (I had dapsone-induced methemglobenemia after being on the drug for 2.5 years, I am still very pro biomedicine)
March 16, 2026 at 7:28 PM
I've also had methemeglobenemia from dapsone and liver issues from colchicine and go bonkers on prednisone, so I'm unlucky with meds side effects, so I'd like to be on fewer. But that would require me to be in remission.

I had drug-induced methemoglobinemia from dapsone. It was terrifying!!! But I'm not questioning the efficiency of drug approvals.

Unless you take a regimen of dapsone, rifampicin and clofazimine for a year
Leprosy will take control and bring you to your Death 🔥

Hey is there a #dermsky community here? (Or #IDSky #PharmSky)

If you had someone with pyoderma gangrenosa who responded well to dapsone but had other side effects, what would be your second drug of choice? Minocyline, steroids, cyclosporine?

Complications related to medicine/vaccines do suck. But they are rare. Of course, for instance, I wish I didn't have dapsone-induced methemoglobinemia, but this drug is still very safe. I also had a weird out of range reaction.

There have always been ways to report vaccine complications!

3️⃣ Switching to 2nd-line prophylactic agents, e.g. atovaquone & dapsone are LESS EFFECTIVE than TMP/SMX at preventing PJP and opportunistic infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes, Toxoplasma gondii, and Nocardia spp. & can lead to breakthrough infections and significant morbidity and mortality.
June 4, 2025 at 2:13 PM
Leprosy is fully curable using a combination of antibiotics called multidrug therapy (MDT), which typically includes dapsone, rifampicin, and clofazimine. This treatment is highly effective, stops the disease from spreading within days of starting, and is provided free of charge by the WHO
July 31, 2026 at 3:26 PM
The answer is: sulfhemoglobinemia.

Sulfhemoglobinemia is a *permanently* modified hemoglobin associated with exposure to TMP/SMX, dapsone, phenazopyridine, & other amino & nitro compounds.

It has an altered oxy-hemoglobin dissociation curve, but unlike metHb the curve is RIGHT-shifted.

Just don't use poppers if you take

riociguat
avanafil
cabergoline
ergoloid mesylates
ergotamine
lofexidine
methylergonovine
sildenafil
tadalafil
vardenafil
arginine
benazepril
bretylium
bupivacaine implant
captopril
dapsone topical
nitroglycerin
tetracaine

And you *should* be fine 😅

I'm a very pro-biomedicine person who's been unlucky with a handful of drug side effects (psych issues on prednisone, methemoglobinemia on dapsone) so happy to explain my story to those residents.

Personally, would do Ganciclovir/valgcv + gscf support intermittently to keep ANC >1000 if the issue is only agranulocytosis! Would switch PCP SXT proph to SS/day or switch to Dapsone to minimise other drug contributions to agranulocytosis.

I'm also on dapsone, which is mostly taken by AIDS patients to prevent opportunistic fungal infections in the lungs.

I'm on dapsone full time.

It can't be cured with yoga but as I've already noted in reply to another comment, there is a successful treatment regimen that consists of three medicines (dapsone, rifampicin and clofazimine) and is referred to as multi-drug therapy (MDT). Science trumps occult pseudo-science yet again!

I'm on Dapsone. (I don't do well on sulfa.)

#Dapsone Hypersensitivity Syndrome #DHS
occurs 2 to 6 weeks after starting dapsone, characterized by the triad of fever, skin rash (dermatitis), and internal organ involvement (most commonly hepatitis/jaundice and lymphadenopathy)
March 18, 2026 at 1:27 AM
Looks like preferred regimen for Hansen’s is daily dapsone and rifampicin once per month for paucibacillary disease and if multibacillary you add clofazimine. Seems like thalidomide can be used for erythema nodosum leprosum
January 30, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Omg yes 😭😭😭 The only thing that (mostly) works for me is topical Dapsone, which my dermatologist prescribes. She also has me use retin-A. But even still I'll get big ass pimples on my chin a lot. Not as much as before though. Sometimes (like today) I'll actually have clear skin 🤯
