#deij
Dear Science friends:

A coordinated effort across science & academia is appropriate in response to the fascist moves against science funding and DEIJ by the current administration.

It should be effective and broadly supported.

What are your ideas for action?

“Equity was causing divisiveness”

Oh is that the problem. The equity component

Glad we have removed justice and equity from DEIJ and now we just have inclusion and diversity. The real important parts

Hey science folks - it would be good to start compiling a list of funders who will still support environmental justice and DEIJ efforts while NIH and NSF are being hampered.

Please add resources below if possible!

You hit the nail on the head! The new CEO was plucked from the same group of corporate boot lickers who readily abandoned their DEIJ policies as soon as tRump crawled back into the White House. Before I ever set foot again in a Target they'd need new outside leadership standing up clearly for DEIJ.

And to do so by framing disability rights as "DEIJ" has completely blown my mind. Absolute fucking ghouls.

How can we make conservation fieldwork more inclusive and just?

New document by the SCB Europe's DEIJ Committee summarizes key barriers to participation and practical, evidence-based actions and ways forward. See a couple of examples below.

For the record, I'm still furious at the kids for not taking my advice and rearranging the letters in DEIJ and calling their committee Jedi.

The point of Trump's recent executive order on DEIJ in government contracting is to create a fear of liability for even doing *lawful* business with Black-owned businesses. www.phillytrib.com/news/across_...
Black business leaders, legal advocates warn of impact from Trump order on federal contracts
Joel Wilson, owner of JCW Computer Consulting in West Philadelphia, said his application for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise, or DBE, certification was abruptly halted.

This #CCCC "culture" thing has me in a tizzy. I'm just one academic editor but regardless of all that's going on re. various scholarly associations, depts & grants, I'll just say that I'll not be backing down on publishing well-researched DEIJ-related content. I got your back.

So I feel like I'm existing in an alternate universe at my workplace, because DEIJ work is taken *very seriously*. Once a month, I work with my supervisor to lay out priorities and check in on how I'm incorporating specific DEIJ-focused fundraising principles into my work.

Have they blamed this on DEIJ yet?

Who is responsible for the collapsing NYC building?
A. Mamdani/"socialism"
B. DEIJ hires
C. Environmentalists
D. All of the above

The progressive churches I’ve attended in the past mostly stuck to progressive social stuff (DEIJ stuff) and didn’t touch much on economic stuff beyond “help the poor”

So this pastor’s sermon on the “imperial Caesars” of corporate capitalism hit so hard, so excited to attend this church
This church totally passed the vibe check

Woman who sat behind me warned that they’re the “scrappy, progressive, social justice” UCC in town

Epiphany sermon (about resisting empire) foreshadowed an upcoming series about community resistance to unjust government

Multiple hardcore birders here too
Church shopping for a congregation that looks friendly near my new neighborhood

Found one who recently posted a Song Sparrow on Facebook, held an impromptu vigil the day after election day, and is led by a pastor who went on church trial for performing gay marriages in ‘02, seems promising

More organismal biology? Commmunity engagement? In an explicit DEIJ and social mobility framework? And the talented students of the CSU?!
We're hiring at CSUN. Vertebrate Functional Morphologist. Please apply!
We still allow DEI, which I horribly need to specify.
(I'm also not on the committee, but happy to answer any questions!)
My department at CSU Northridge is hiring a vertebrate functional morphologist! We've got a great EEB group, and we're looking for someone to carry forward a tradition of enriching organismal courses and community-engaged research. App review starts March 15

Rather than deleting all pages that mention DEIJ, it would be cool if they replaced the verboten words such as “justice” with “[word censored by executive order]”.
Please don’t tell me they won’t do that, I know they won’t do that.

This is an accountability post for me in case I’m asked to do this

Anyone know of other organizations who are doing this? Especially those that identify as evidence-based and actively supporting DEIJ. Please respond to @globalecoguy.bsky.social ⬇️
We have decided to ban the use of GenAI for research, writing & creative work at our organization.

In fact, we make people sign an agreement saying that their research, analysis, writing, and creative work are *theirs* and not done by GenAI.

Something something, no it's DEIJ that's racially divisive
From birtherism to natural born citizenship, the president is a racist nativist all the way down. You cannot separate this Administration’s view of our national identity from this invidious slop.
