Dediagnosing claims to reduce stigma, but it often aims at reducing access to care to save money.
It wants to reduce "overuse":
"Dediagnosing comes together with other efforts to reduce overuse, such as deimplementation, deprescribing, decommissioning, and disinvestment."

JAMA’s message for healthcare leaders: “doing less” is often harder than doing more. Trials of deprescribing and de-escalation show that some interventions can safely be reduced, while others cannot. Success requires patient selection, monitoring, and shared decision-making. #MedSky buff.ly/1S9Z0fJ

Postoperative Interventions and Cost Associated With Disposition After Tonsil and Adenoidectomy
CONCLUSIONS: A minority of PICU admissions following T/A procedures require urgent or emergent interventions. This suggests that deimplementation of routine T/A PICU admissions may facilitate transitioning patients to the inpatient unit, reducing costs and optimizing PICU use.

📊 Research Summary: In critically ill children, omitting routine #GRV measurement did not affect survival or ventilator-free days and improved nutritional target achievement, supporting deimplementation.

Safer Supply Programs in Canada: Rise, Fall, and Public Health Implications Key Highlights Medicine · Public Health · Health Policy This Viewpoint from JAMA Health Forum critically examines the implementation and subsequent deimplementation of safer supply programs in Canada, which provided pharmaceutical-grade medications to individuals using unregulated substances, particularly opioids. The article analyzes the policy factors and evidence base that led to the rise and then the rollback of these harm reduction initiatives across Canadian provinces.

The Rise and Fall of Safer Supply Programs in Canada Key Highlights Medicine · Public Health This Viewpoint article critically examines the trajectory of safer supply programs in Canada, which were designed to provide pharmaceutical-grade medications to individuals using unregulated opioids. The analysis details the factors that led to the implementation of these harm reduction initiatives and the subsequent political and public health pressures that drove their deimplementation.

TAI remembers everything. Healthcare needs the courage to forget. This BMJ Quality & Safety editorial argues that deimplementation — deliberately stopping low-value care — is essential to prevent algorithms from scaling yesterday’s mistakes. @ualbertanursing.bsky.social @dalhealth.bsky.social

ok I genuinely love the coinage "deimplementation engine" /cc @deontologistics.bsky.social
January 7, 2026 at 9:20 AM
another way of putting it: a symex engine is most of a deimplementation engine, as it provides much of the information (symbolic values in state expressed in terms of inputs, path constraints) necessary to abstract a model out of an implementation

u do need a clever harness too, but symex is key
