Spinning yarn is my writing hack! I've got a little espinner next to my computer and when I really need to get writing done, I reach for a handful of wool every time I feel the urge to screw around online instead. I spin it, and when it's done, I go back to writing.

#SundaysAreForSpinning : I’m about halfway spinning singles for my current project and spent some time at my carder. I carded up 2 @fossilfibers.bsky.social blending club shipments and did a test batt of a Finn fleece that’s been in my stash for too long. #Handspinning 🧶
An espinner with spun singles. The main colors that show are lime green and purple. Dyed by Fossil Fibers, the colorway is “Blanket Octopus” on 80/20 Rambouillet/Silk. A partially unrolled carded batt of fiber. It was from the February 2026 Quiet Sip blending club from Fossil Fibers. The theme was chamomile tea with honey and ginger. It had dyed (yellow and an almost peach color) and undyed Border Leicester locks, with some fun mix-ins including dyed mohair (yellow and green), flax (bright yellow), viscose (white), and sari silk (brownish gold). 4: Finally, I did a sample batt of a Finn fleece that’s been sitting in my stash a while. In the fleece, I thought it was more a light brown, but carded up it appears more grey (albeit a warm grey). Another Fossil Fibers blending club, but with the current Pollinators theme. Specifically, this shipment’s theme was hummingbirds. It had 2 shades of grey Corriedale and Shetland in white and then dyed multiple shades of green. Finally, some bright pink bamboo and purple tussah silk. A partially unrolled carded batt of Finn fleece, along with one of the locks. I thought it was more brown in the fleece, but it seems more grey (albeit a warm grey) carded up.

That makes sense as the yarn looked really good as a first attempt 😊 really intersting to hear about the differences in espinner vs wheel, I have only ever used wheels and spindles but the small ewheels looks pretty nifty. I’m sure you will (or have already) work it out in no time!

Managed to successfully ply the cinnamon and black alpaca onto itself and mostly fill up my first full bobbin 💪 🧶

Still a decent amount of inconsistency with some much thinner spots here and there but overall I'm jazzed. Time to skein it up and soak

Picked up some alpaca roving, and an e spinner and got some free wool as a gift with the spinner. Practicing on the BFL I trained on with the spindle first but cannot wait to try this alpaca

Days 8-9 of spinning

Spun about 20 grams of BFL total on this session and ended up with about 13 meters of yarn

Not the most consistent spin but still probably my best yet.

My first espinner should be here tomorrow so I'm excited to play with that

Ohhh I kind of want another espinner! What have you tried? I have an EEW Nano 1.0 with an upgraded motor, and it's fun and inexpensive, but feels like more of a toy to me. It does make yarn, although it only spins well at very thin weights and the bobbins don't hold much. Also finicky!
