#eurobonds
Well, as America implodes from within, it’d be a *great* time for the EU to finally do official Eurobonds. It’d likely be very attractive as a safe haven given the destruction of US hegemony & spillover to US T-bills. Bonus: Eurobonds can finance a desperately needed European security build up! 🇪🇺💶 ‼️

More countries should follow. Buy eurobonds instead.

It’s just Eurobonds. They are doing Eurobonds! Yay!

But politically the Germans need to make it look like something else.
By imposing conditions on someone accessing the asset (ie demanding Russia pays reparations, which have not been agreed nor can be imposed on Russia, to get access to its money), are you not in effect confiscating the asset? That's the question at the heart of the legality of the frozen asset debate
Ursula von der Leyen says a "part" of the €140 billion reparations loan for Ukraine will be used "for procurement in Europe and with Europe".

"Importantly, there is no seizing of the assets. Ukraine has to repay the loan if Russia is paying reparations," she says.

Mark Rutte, by her side: "If!"

Was die EU jetzt braucht:
- eine Armee
- Eurobonds
- mehr erneuerbare Energie
- Abschaffung des Einstimmigkeitsprinzips
- die Möglichkeit, Órban rauszuwerfen

Eurobonds, now.
Investors dare to imagine a world beyond the dollar - If the EU could seize this moment and issue joint debt, it would tap in to a deep well of willing buyers keen to trim US exposure. on.ft.com/4iHtsH1 via @FT

The US could dismantle its own exorbitant privilege by pushing the big bond market beasts into the arms of others

Inching towards Eurobonds with an ESM variant that could even include the UK and Ukraine

Today would be a good day for the EU to issue Eurobonds to rearm and support Ukraine.
Greece is benefitting not only from its recovery - from a deep crisis indeed- but also from a large share of its debt stock being held by official EU creditors at low rates.

Bailout boon in the long run.
Today it is considerably cheaper for the Greek government to lend money in international money markets, than for the US government. Now tell me again that the eurozone and the EU are run by idiots who understand nothing.

Its 2025, and UK politicians are starting to call for Eurobonds.
Gordon Brown, former chancellor of UK, calls for Europe wide bonds to fund increase of defence spending to keep up with NATO commitments. Says Germany and France already looking outside fiscal rules/annual budgets, to raise money - BBC Radio 4.

Kamer tegen plan Europese Commissie voor grootschalige defensie-investeringen. Reden: eurobonds.

Kraakhelder is Klaas Knot (#DNB-baas) over #eurobonds:

“Als je mij een persoonlijke verzuchting toestaat: ik vind dat er af en toe in Nederland wel wat gehyperventileerd wordt over eurobonds. En dat de rationaliteit uit dat debat wel enigszins zoek is”

Klaas Knot (DNB): Nederlandse politiek ‘hyperventileert’ over eurobonds

I'd say: keep calm and do eurobonds.
Woah Nellie, Trump rekindles the trade war with Europe over Greenland.

The President announces 10% tariffs on France, Germany, the Netherlands, the UK (yes), Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia.

The tariffs will rise to 25% on June 1st unless Greenland is sold to the US.

Whatever discussions happen in Brussels today, I hope they are not just about counter tariffs, but also the possibility of issuing eurobonds and making the euro a second global reserve currency to compete with the dollar.

if I were running the EU I'd load up a bunch of, let's say, 10 billion batches of 30-year eurobonds and see what kind of demand you get
April 21, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Just do the damn Eurobonds.
I'm still not clear who is going to take up this €150bn in EU SAFE money announced today. It seems like a lot of work for a scheme that I don't see getting a lot of take-up. I would NOT assume it will result in much higher defence spending in Europe. My sceptical thread - do point out if I'm wrong 🧵

Klein, klein land

🇺🇦 Naftogaz has reached an agreement with Western partners to restructure its €1.2 billion Eurobonds.

This will allow it to use the funds to purchase gas for next winter and offset losses from constant Russian attacks on gas production and storage facilities.
