and to be clear I don't fully agree with the pope on this (ie on the metaphysical/theistic point), just feels like for the last 75 years and esp in the US the Catholic philosophers and the existentialists have been allied against the same military industrial complex affiliated utilitarians

It’s so much worse in the U.S. than elsewhere, and maybe it’s because our culture doesn’t make those differentiations.

Just do what the Existentialists do and feel happy and liberated about the sad thing. Turns out it’s actually great that we’re not free in the way Sartre wants! Now we’re feeling free from that freedom cope!

until there arose the need for a new method. Theoretical Physicists make science jump through hoops and once through they coerced hitherto unknown regions of the Other Realm to submit to its application. Their rule over the realm outweighs all rivals. Quantum Existentialists.

The Existentialists refused to abandon the Other Realm. They exponentially expanded its phenomena. It was a realm rich with prospect. A realm of projects and action from which freedom was distilled.

It was very good. Turturro was fantastic in the lead, Giamatti made some great physical comedy of turning into a rhinoceros without making a goof of it. Maslany also good!
The play hits pretty hard. It’s “Who Goes Nazi?” for Existentialists.

Which midcentury theorists do you have in mind? I would think of the existentialists who somehow became seen as passé. Poststructuralism was a convenient misdirection to forget the Algerian War, and existentialists were engaged in the anticolonial side and not forgetting the war.
