Why Fenofibrate attenuates peripheral neuropathic pain by suppressing neuroinflammation matters more than you think.

Fenofibrate may slow established diabetic retinopathy, but it did not clearly prevent retinopathy before it began. Our evidence-led summary explains what the new meta-analysis found. https://livingdiabetes.com/fenofibrate-diabetic-retinopathy-meta-analysis/ #Diabetes #EyeHealth

You’re lucky! Mine never stops, if it’s not cholesterol he’s not interested. I refused statins but he didn’t give up and so I’m now on fenofibrate which seems ok.

And meanwhile, my allegedly world-class cardiologist doesn't understand the difference between a fibrate and a fenofibrate, so she's not going to write a prescription for something that would work. And I can ask AI all this in minutes.

I’ve always refused them. I’m on a different thing now, Fenofibrate which I am taking. Mine isn’t actually that high but my GP is obsessed with it! I’m having the special lung scan next week to check for lung cancer. I’ve had it done twice already as I took part in research for it.

Association of fenofibrate use with progression of ocular disease in individuals with diabetes
Background/aims Fenofibrates may slow progression of diabetic retinopathy (DR). This study used the large international TriNetX database to evaluate progression of retinopathy and development of cataracts, primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and diabetic macular oedema (DME) in patients with diabetes with and without fenofibrate use. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, ICD10 codes and RxNorm were used to identify patients in the TriNetX database aged ≥18 years with a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM), with mild or moderate non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and with and without fenofibrate use from December 2014 through December 2024. ORs were calculated to analyse the proportion of individuals with mild or moderate NPDR using fenofibrate who developed vision-threatening DR (VTDR, defined as severe NPDR or proliferative DR), cataracts, POAG or DME compared with those not taking fenofibrate. Those with cataracts, POAG or DME at baseline were excluded from their respective outcomes analyses. Results After propensity score matching, 4316, 4200, 4073 and 4571 individuals prescribed fenofibrate were compared with the same number who were not prescribed fenofibrate for progression to VTDR, cataract, POAG or DME, respectively. The ORs for DR progression (OR 0.528, 95% CI 0.333 to 0.838; p=0.0059), cataract (OR 0.585, 95% CI 0.441 to 0.774; p=0.0002) and DME (OR 0.316, 95% CI 0.243 to 0.411; p

I’m really worried about trying fenofibrate. I apparently have statin intolerance but I also can’t seem to tolerate statin alternatives either, which this is one of them. With this med, it’ll be the fifth cholesterol med they’ll have tried me on, and all of them have made me sicker & haven’t helped.

I think this is probably why I have a fenofibrate rx tbh

Looked up fenofibrate in Wikipedia (a great source for info on prescription drugs), and it's apparently quite old and generic, though doesn't affect exactly the same cholesterol versions as the statins do. Not sure it's price but probably not super high.
(The injectable is fairly new and pricey.)

i think i read about that fenofibrate one. the issue for us in the US is just affordability though, everything is ridiculously expensive. like unimaginably.
July 19, 2026 at 6:02 AM
It's the first oral one of that particular type,
but there are other non-statin cholesterol drugs like fenofibrate, as well as new weekly injectables like Repatha.
