I took my just-off-the-needles sweater out for a walk on the trails today. Since it's made from wool grown by Vancouver Island sheep, and hand dyed on Vancouver Island, it felt right at home. :) #shoplocal #fibreshed #handknit #handmade #slowfashion #naturewalk

On behalf of the Pembina Fibre Shed, I have spun some local flax - grown and hand-processed in Manitoba- to demonstrate the process at public events. Now I'm ready to knit some. #FibreShed

I don’t have a fibreshed in my area (yet) but I’ve found some very small local producers through my local yarn store and local yarn festivals. One of my most-used items is a shawl made with yarn from sheep that live in my town.

There are some great fibreshed projects making #LocalLinen - like @taprootfibrelab.bsky.social in NS and a group of textile artists I met in Victoria BC a few years back. I still think the waste fibre from growing flaxseed on the Prairies (it's tow length) could be mixed with wool for spinning.

The fine and lustrous Coopworth wool in this blanket was locally sourced, spun, dyed and woven right here in our Ontario Fibreshed.
These fabulous natural colours by @ironcauldron.ca were foraged from a 1 km radius from where the wool was dyed and woven.

The show was organized by Jude Haraldson through Prairie Fibreshed, an organization that promotes circular textile processes. All works in the show were handmade using natural fibre materials grown and processed in our province 🧶🌾
