me shaking my head as i see the frametime drop me from 121fps to 82 every time i open the menu

This is a huge suite of changes in CCD, mass, impulses, frametime handling, etc. That alone is a huge amount of what would have just been slow manual work for me to handle during the process. It's not stuff I CAN'T do, but is entirely unrealistic given time constraints around my work hours.

I think some of it also comes from people just not knowing how to make optimized systems.

Once I made a system that took 72ms of cpu frametime in a world with people in it, and it was because of Body Node Slot.

After writing it once instead of driving, it ran so much better.

How to tell what kind of stutter you have. Watch GPU usage when the frametime graph spikes. Pinned near 99% and still hitching points at shaders, VRAM or frame pacing. Dropping to 50-70% points at the CPU, RAM or a background thread stealing time.

Why Is My PC Stuttering in Games? Frame Stutter vs Low FPS (2026)
Stutter, low FPS, and lag get called the same thing and have different fixes. Diagnose which one you have, then fix that one.

Just to be clear; I don't have an ROG, I have a Onexplayer with an Intel chip. Optiscaler is especially nice on Intel because you can force XeSS, which looks and runs far better on Intel hardware. Per optiscaler overlay usually it's 1~1.5ms frametime cost for the upscale.
October 7, 2026 at 1:34 AM
Yea thankfully just capping it to 60 FPS seems to eliminate most of it because the millisecond frametime spikes are at 60 FPS ms or above by and large.

more than likely a proton issue but I haven't found a single version that either doesnt have frametime issues or doesnt just ctd on boot

gave it a quick test, and while it is a bit better its definitely still not good. every setting on low, playin on 1080 performance and while fps is around 50-60 (still sub 40 in base camp/hub lol) the frametime is still a massive problem, fps says 50 but in fights it feels more like sub 40
reinstalling wilds cause a friend got back into it and I wanna see how the performance is now, spun a random monster wheel and got fatalis soooooo :3
September 28, 2026 at 10:09 AM
like the frametimes are solid with a good limited, you won’t see it on a frametime graph. its the camera’s animation rate. very common source of judder in UE games that few people call out, Alex was the only one and hes been MIA for a year
September 26, 2026 at 6:11 PM
trust me when I say that I am an absolute freak for frametime stability, haha. it drives me crazy. my gameplay mouse movement looks pristine, but the cutscenes look a little framey even though I'm rendering 120 solid

also I don't really get shader stutter, just the usual traversal stutter of UE5

I played through all of the base game and tu's but with every update the fps and frametime stutters got worse, I didnt wanna bother with it
I havent played since the lod update (which is insane that was an issue that wasnt fixed at launch) so hopefully I'll be able to play at any fps higher than 45

Today, I take a fresh look at DLSS 5 with the available information... I draw a line for its use to achieve 60fps performance, a best use-case scenario, look at the relationship of frametime cost to power and matrix calculations, and suggest Nvidia's potential future plans...
