Bought some pamphlets at Peckham big book fair. Bins, pylons, gasholders. The holy trinity.

A stunning image of a Deltic at King's Cross with the famous gasholders, long before they were moved and had flats built inside some of them. ⬇️
"White Room has got lots of trains and railway references in it. That's because I was living in Baker Street which is close to Euston, Marylebone and Kings Cross. Those are the stations that are alluded to." - Pete Brown, co-writer of 'White Room' by Cream along with Jack Bruce

Now watching: ‘The Ladykillers’, dir. Alexander Mackendrick, 1955. I just gasped in delight at a shot of the gasholders behind Kings Cross. 🎥🎬

Gasholders don't often come to mind when you hear "historic buildings". Once vital to powering our cities, gasholders are slowly disappearing from the urban landscape — and with them, an iconic piece of our industrial heritage.

Gasholders!
Industrial landmarks or eyesores in need of demolition? Love them or hate them, they are very much part of our landscape.

Sometimes they even give us a sci-fi moment, as these Hilsea horton spheres did in 1967, when testing their emergency cooling system. ©IGEM

Look carefully at London's stained glass windows and you might just see gasholders, skyscrapers and even a double-decker bus

Back from a birthday party at Coal Drops Yard at King's Cross. Impressive regeneration - salvaging some of the industrial heritage, sweeping away the dereliction, and making somewhere good to look at and pleasant to be in.
