#geneticmirroring
When I saw photos of my bio siblings for the first time it felt like something snapped into place in my brain. For the first time ever I was seeing my nose, my smile, my eyes, my hair on someone else. It was amazing. #geneticmirroring #adopteevoices 🥚
Even for a same-race #adoptee, loss of all genetic mirroring while growing up can have profound effects on one’s body image and self esteem. In front of mirrors I would submit my physical “flaws” (my mismatched ears, my large nose & adam’s apple) to hostile scrutiny. I saw myself as a freak.

ASYMMETRY IS HEREDITARY.
I grew up thinking it was a problem but it’s completely normal. I thought that something was deeply wrong with me because of a lack of genetic mirroring and conversations around these topics.
