Is he doing the hokey pokey?

It's October 1st. Time to watch scary movies and play spooky games in my backlog. Up first is Sam Neill's In the Mouth of Madness. That was some great '90s b-horror. It was David Lynch meets Lovecraft in all of its hokey glory as each character realizes they aren't real. Plus, the theme song is fun.

Oh yeah, review for Dracula. It's stagey, it's hokey, it's butchered, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, but there's just something about it that draws me back every October...

A ★★★★ review of Dracula (1931)
The acting is hokey and incredibly stagey, the cinematography is static and uninspired, we don't get to see Dracula turn into a bat or a wolf or even bite anyone, the pacing isn't great upon reaching ...

Outta hokey 'walk and chew gum'? Honey we know the score, the second you get what you want, you and yours sit right on down and get comfortable again and it's us that does the walking alone.

Well, then don't expect us to build you a bench to sit on while we march on.

It's all subjective but fwiw I was SCREAMING at the TV when it was happening. I'd say it's worth it. The "every woman is sexy, every woman is a star" stuff is hokey but the core of her story is being a survivor of DV and that comes into play later.

77. The End of Oak Street
Very Land of the Lost kinda premise, thought it was going to be way more hokey in tone than I thought. I like the drama with the main family but the girl they pick up later doesn't really add much to the plot and the dinosaur designs were passable. Ending was...interesting.

You have more faith in the basic sanity of the Tories than I do: but you may be right in that they are nothing if not survivors.

Also the « hokey » phase can’t start until the early 2030s, so a 2034 election will be during any negotiation and by 2039 the political landscape could be very different.

#moviereviews: Spider Labyrinth 1988

Hokey Italian movie about a secret cult worshipping a spider god. Some fun effects, but dreadful dialog & horrid ADR that sounds like it was recorded in a warehouse. Silly premise with predictable end, but hardly memorable. Spider lady is fun to watch.

Geezus Horatio Christ... what the absolute fuck is wrong with me?!? I'm actually crying at this hokey, sappy, pre-birth hospital wedding scene in Cobra Kai.

“Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.”
On Wednesday, Pete Hegseth announced the creation of a new entity within the Pentagon: the Office of Religious Affairs.

The office will “sponsor and oversee research, technology, and analytical tools to support and assess spiritual fitness, spiritual readiness, and spiritual resilience.”
What to know about Hegseth’s new office of religious affairs

New Mike Flanagan/Stephen King about to drop. Love me some Mike Flanagan and some Stephen King.

This final button scene from the original seems tame now, if not outright hokey, but i assure you that it freaked people tf out back in the day.

I read this in the Times and it gave me hope that despite the current assault on science, scientists will find a way to do the work that expands our knowledge base, and not to be too hokey, moves humanity forward. Thank you and heres hoping the funding landscape improves!

I think a lot of folks in the UK really don't appreciate how disruptive and all-consuming brexit was for the EU for several years, and there's a lot of folks in the EU who are very much "we must never go through that again". Join if you want, leave if you must. But pick a lane; no more hokey-pokey.
October 1, 2026 at 11:35 AM
the main thing for the EU I think is going to be getting to a consensus that joining means joining, and not just doing in-out-in-out hokey-pokey politics constantly in every parliament that follows

Looking at British polls I’m unconvinced that electoral reform (while clearly needed) resolves the Hokey Cokey brexit problem: right wing and broadly left-liberal blocs both have about 48/49%.

Your assumption seems to rely on the tories rediscovering reality, which at the moment seems a long shot.

This was a Billboard. Can't remember where I saw it but I put it in my Save File. I added the GIF for fun.
