Some butterflies are supermodels, while others are more like Special Forces operatives in chameleon camo garb. Like this Owl Butterfly here.

A bright colourful photo of a dark, almost drab looking, brown Owl Butterfly. They are famous for the large, prominent eyespots on the underside of their wings. These patterns resemble the eyes of an owl, which helps scare away hungry predators like birds and lizards in their natural rainforest habitats. They are native to the tropical forests of Mexico, Central America, and South America. Visually, this is a close-up macro photograph showing an owl butterfly resting on a black metal structure, its wings folded vertically to reveal a complex camouflage pattern. The underside of the wing is a mosaic of rich brown, tan, and beige ripples, dominated by a prominent, dark circular eyespot with a golden-yellow border near the lower edge that mimics an owl's eye. The butterfly's head, slender antennae, and legs are visible where it grips the vertical metal bar. The background is a soft, vibrantly blurred Bokeh mix of lush green foliage and hints of red flowers, creating a shallow depth of field that highlights the intricate textures of the butterfly.

A red, white, & blue supermodel: A stunning Red Flasher (aka, a Prola Beauty) butterfly.

#Macro #Bugsky #InsectThursday #Butterflies #MacroPhotography #MacroMonday #Canon210mm #Photography #Photographers #ECK #GardenSky #NaturePhotos
A vibrant, colourful macro photograph captures a close-up, side profile view of a gorgeous scarlet red coloured butterfly. Google identifies & describes it as follows: "a Prola Beauty butterfly (Panacea prola), a brush-footed species native to Central and South America that is also frequently called the "Red Flasher." Resting on a shadowed green leaf against a softly blurred, natural backdrop, the insect reveals the striking contrast of its underwings. The lower section of its wing is blanketed in a solid, radiant, flaming scarlet red that lacks any patterns or markings, while the upper forewing border displays a dramatic black band accented by a crisp white stripe. What makes this coloring so significant is its dual-purpose evolutionary function: while the turquoise-blue upper side of its wings is used to attract mates, the blinding red undersides act as an aposematic "flash" defense mechanism designed to startle predators or signal danger to nearby butterflies when it fans its wings

Nature's stained glass windows, Malachite butterfly version.

A macro, side-profile photograph features two butterflies resting on a textured, bright red feeding substrate inside an enclosure. According to Google, both are Malachite butterflies. "Malachite butterflies are named after the green mineral malachite due to this brilliant, mineral-like coloration on their wings, which provides excellent camouflage among forest foliage." Visually, the close-up photo shows, on the right, a Malachite butterfly (Siproeta stelenes) that dominates the scene, positioned in profile with its large wings upright, displaying a striking pattern of translucent lime-green panels outlined by rich brown and black borders. To its left, the second butterfly is partially visible and turned away from the camera, showcasing dark black or deep brown wings adorned with clean white spots and stripes along its edges.

Grasshopper Advice: When your attempt at hiding is camo-flawed, pose elegantly for the camera and keep on hitchhiking.
