IT'S CALLED AN "INVISIBLE DISABILITY" BECAUSE WHEN WE MANAGE OUR DISABILITIES WELL, PEOPLE ACT LIKE WE DON'T HAVE THEM

Happy Disability Pride Month to all my friends, and individuals who have a form of disability whether it be physical, neurological, etc.

There is a lot going on with the disability community at this very moment in our country & the world. But know that you are absolutely worth it.

N95s make invisible disabilities visible. That's what the anger is about.

It’s dehumanizing & discriminatory to say the “genuinely disabled” don’t have to worry about Medicaid cuts

Everyone needs to worry about millions of people losing their healthcare

Invisible disabilities are real. Mental health disabilities are real. Saying some are “genuine” infers others are not

Not all disabilities are visible, and those with invisible disabilities, are tired of explaining themselves.

So many disabilities are invisible. Mine is.

Ok so here's what I'm mad about today.

The invisibility of disabled people.

There are invisible disabilities (altho frankly they are not that invisible, we're just working our asses off hiding them) but you can be hella obvious and people don't notice.

“You don’t look sick”.

Chronic illness is often invisible

Many disabilities are invisible

People can look “fine” on the outside and have devastating disease processes inside their body

They can be living in constant pain, fatigue & exhaustion

Don’t judge a book by its cover

Lowkey hate the term "invisible disabilities", cause like, my so-called "invisible" disabilities are not actually invisible at all, it's just that their extremely visible symptoms have instead been socially defined as personal failures, simply me being "lazy", "immature", "antisocial" or "pathetic".

The CDC wants to redesign its annual health survey. Their proposed changes would make people with intellectual and developmental disabilities "invisible."

As CDC redesigns annual health survey, it removes questions about disabilities
Proposed changes to the federal government’s health survey would undercount Americans with disabilities, advocates say.

It's Invisible Disabilities Week 🫶🏽
Not all disabilities are visible and that doesn't make them any less real.
Chronic pain, mental health conditions, neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases & more deserve awareness, respect, and understanding ✨

for anyone interested in this topic, my team at ESPN helped out on this great @samborden.bsky.social story about sports fans with invisible disabilities (including blindness/low vision): www.espn.com/espn/feature...
An invisible problem in sports
Millions of sports fans live with invisible disabilities. Fans of the Steelers, Eagles and more share their stories and changes they'd like to see.

“What about Pride?”
“You just had Pride.”
“Well, what about Second Pride?”

(Me as a disabled Hobbit, probably.)

IT’S DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH, FOLKS!

We have a flag too! Designed by Ann Magill, and updated to this version to prevent strobing issues while scrolling on devices! #DisabilityPride

Hey guys! I know we all like to joke about July being pride 2.0 / Wrath month, but let's also remember it's disability pride month too!

Many of us are both LGBTQ+ and live with disabilities and it's more important than ever that both groups stick together and support each other!

An autistic man from Silver Spring was concerned that police officers may not understand how to interact with people with invisible disabilities like his. So he created an ID symbol, and now it's state legislation. My latest: bethesdamagazine.com/2025/02/13/e...
Silver Spring family advocates for driver’s license marker for autism, invisible disabilities
Eric’s ID Law would allow Maryland residents with certain invisible disabilities to “opt-in” to have a special symbol placed on their driver’s license.
