"Every book is a children's book if the kid can read."

- Mitch Hedberg
The big literary discourse on twitter right now is whether The Hobbit—a children’s book that won children’s lit awards and was literally written for the author’s children—is appropriate reading for children or in fact such a difficult book most adults can’t “get their head around” it.

I wasn't a band or theater kid, but I was a book kid and I think that still counts for something here.

To the kid back in Alabama who read Percy Jackson and told himself he’d write a book series with a character who looks like him one day…

You did it, kid.

I understand that it sucks to have to read a book you didn't choose as a kid but when people are like 40 and still going, "well assigned reading turned me off from reading" it's like, ok but you're 40. No one has assigned you a book in like 20 years.

Also, everyone asserting that a particular book or author you loved as a kid "holds up": nice you think so, now let's go ask an actual kid from today

A 65 year old man calling himself "kid" is stupid in my book.

Donald Trump answers every question like a dull, lazy kid giving a book report on a book he never even picked up.

5yo has decided she is a writer so our house is filling with novellas, including THE LOST BABY DOLPHIN, another gripping tale "ritin and ilistratid by Eva"

Being a leftist in America feels like showing up to English class having done the reading, but being forced to listen to kid after kid who didn’t read the book try to sound like they read the book.

And you know they haven’t read the book, because you did.

Anyway, “the book” is history.

Hang on, I just saw someone refer to Banned Book Club (2020) as a book they read when they were a kid.

I'm gonna need a minute.

Every Pete Hegseth speech just sounds like the worst kid in middle school fell asleep watching Patton and forgot he had to give a book report in English class the next day

5. The best way of pushing a book to a kid is to say it isn't suitable. "You won't understand it." "It's rude." "It's far too challenging for someone your age." Then, just leave the book around somewhere they can reach it.

When I was a kid, I got free books through Dolly’s Imagination Library. I read this book so often the cover fell off. Steel Magnolias was (and is) one of my favorite movies.

I can’t tell you what it meant to be a poor, artistic kid with Dolly to look up to. RIP Dolly; we’ll always love you

Oh, that’s super cool that your kid could read a book at the age of three. My kid knew all the words to Brass Monkey.

The kid read her first real book front to back with limited assistance tonight. This is a well done children’s book because it is a meaningful story with accessible and repetitive vocabulary to build confidence. Would recommend 10/10.

She was very proud of herself 🔥
