A zillion years ago, my workplace created a listserv I knew my coworkers weren't ready for. To the introductory email I responded, "Thank you. I would like to be addressed as the Grand Duchess Anastasia." And that listserv disappeared for a couple of years while everyone learned what email was.

Don't underestimate the power of the neighborhood listserv.
I helped organize transition our local parenting listserv to a new system (to defeat spammers) and now half the time I meet new parents around town they say, "wait, THE Gwen Snyder? Of [listserv]?"
Very funny but also: trustbuilding!

Nothing happened when he had a private listserv with other cisgender journalists that he used to complain about us uppity trans people - trans folks were banned from participation, of course. To this day none of the participants have leaked any of the conversations.

Somehow the word "listserv" broke containment in like 1997 and people use it for just anything related to computers or email now.
