#longlived
it's survivorship bias. the mastercrafted very longlived old thing outlasts the median new thing, but the mastercrafted new thing will (probably) outlast the mastercrafted old thing. problem is that it's very hard to tell ex ante which new thing is that well-made

mr mayor @joshuajfriedman.com, a petition, we can register more formal: i promise to make the most longlived, nerdiest, preposterous discourse if you convince your colleagues to give.the.people.dumbpolls
Bluesky needs dumbpolls. This isn’t exactly Moby Dick v. Middlemarch. But it’s at least Israel Potter v. Adam Bede.
who is better:

Goo Goo Dolls

*handwaves* I know it’s just a side conversation but there’s more to it, actually. (Ladida, eagles as spirits of Manwe, the Valar not actively interfering in mortal affairs, the eagles as longlived as ents and thus nearly as similarly removed, them being Maia and probably too powerful for the Ring…)

Our cat was 24 when she died two years ago. She had such purpose!! It's an absolute privilege to have such longlived cats in our lives 💖💖

Greenland shark. Longlived, slow, and cold.

But I would prefer to be a manatee, tbh.

I had an amazing one once that wrote about Francis Bacon's Essays as though he were also the painter Francis Bacon, a very longlived polymath!

100% - Which raises the question why the Faerie who are generally similarly longlived are just... checked out? Trippy? Maybe we just didn't get to see enough of them.

Show a moment from TV/Film that broke your heart.

Formative and longlived. I've never forgotten what I saw when I was 11.

Wrote to @massgovernor.bsky.social asking/pleading the state not to restart nuclear power

Add solar to 15,000 houses instead. Put windmills on every city building

No more nuclear

NOTE: THIS IS MY PREFERENCE

i really like elves but the elezen in ffxiv arent like the ones i usually enjoy ex: tolkien and dalish in dragon age and i love the viera in ff12 which honestly felt more like classic elves to me i guess i just rly love longlived races that are attuned to nature
#wolqotd

So for your WoLs, what made you choose the race you did? Lore, design, what you had planned for your character in terms of backstory/headcanons/other personalizations

I'm curious

The worst take that ever plagued fantasy TTRPG is that "playing a human is basic and boring"

YOU ARE THE SHORTEST LIVED RACE. YOUR MORTALITY FUELS YOUR AMBITION. THE ISSUE IS NOT HUMANS ARE BORING, BUT EVERYONE PLAYS LONGLIVED RACES LIKE HUMANS.

Humans are an oddity, even if they're most common

It's a good thing, however longlived it turns out to be.
Supreme Court rules that Florida can’t enforce harsh anti-immigrant law while it’s being appealed.

Law made it a crime for any undocumented immigrants to enter or re-enter the state. Absent this law, being undocumented is a civil violation.

There is no doubt that independent foundries have delivered more than what we need for reading typefaces. They're prolific, staggeringly talented, and have now closed many technical gaps that were a longlived problem with PostScript typefaces.

I don't think non specialists understand how much we have recently lost in typography. In the "gold rush" since mid 1980s, digital type discarded—simply failed to reproduce, and ignored—nearly FIVE CENTURIES of honed artefacts and sophistication, including every font in this image. flic.kr/p/2pihtHw

sudden, too shortlived to be infested by chuds and bots and braindead streamers but longlived enough for actual community stuff. small enough that any edgelord instantly gets undone

What is the most unusual model you ever had in studio? I had the pleasure of one Mr. Roach; he lived atop the warm monitor, for 8 years! Tea time was his favorite.

Had some ttrpg fantasy worldbuilding thoughts today and think I'll skip humans as an option.

Elves for baseline, changelings are longlived elf vampires, gnolls, hobgoblins, moths, and possibly a few more but these are the ones I've got so far.

I find Academy a slog because teen cringe, and there's a lot wrong with it, but the chancellor/captain being a longlived hippie mess trying to drastically improve the federation is a lot more hopeful than DS9's Pale Moonlight etc

My daughter is an aviculturist (a zookeeper, but for birds). When she is asked for advice, she says, "You know, a dog is a good pet."

She says she loves birds "_because_ they are assholes," but there's so many problems in the home-especially for longlived, complex, self-aware birds like parrots.
