Progress and Challenges in Phylogenomics and Genomics of Lophotrochozoa/Spiralia
Lophotrochozoa is one of the three major bilaterian groups comprising more than half of the bilaterian phyla. Lophotrochozoa includes among others Mollusca, Annelida, Platyhelminthes and Rotifera. De...

Like (AFAIK) these bad boys are annelids, way over in the Lophotrochozoa, but priapulids are ecdysozoans more closely related to the common ancestor of arthropods?? Like spanning the entire basal split in protostomes??

In 2013 I built 23 scale and life-size models for MUSE Science Museum, in Trento, Italy. Here's an enlarged hyolith (Lophotrochozoa), this one is from the Cambrian.

Tomorrow, the coolest part of the day is lab and we get to start on bilateria. And I am so hoping we start with lophotrochozoa, because apart from corals, these are my favorite fossils to find. And, I know that most cephalopods no longer have an outer shell, I just love that they did.

Ja klar ich würde dann bei allem unterhalb von bilateria, unsere letzte gemeinsame Gruppe, noch nen Begriff für dich dazu schreiben. Zum Beispiel gute Nacht ihr Wirbeltiere und den Lophotrochozoa

Chen et al. integrated proteomic and genomic data, supporting a model wherein lophotrochozoan biomineralization is underpinned by a shared ancestral molecular toolkit, differentially filtered and elaborated according to mineral chemistry.

To our surprise, a large TAD encapsulated the Hox cluster, formed dynamically from a large distal enhancer & mirrored Hox activation. This conformation is also in molluscs and nemerteans with intact clusters and Hox spatial collinearity, as in annelids, suggesting it is ancestral to Lophotrochozoa!

Within Lophotrochozoa, the relationships among these groups remained controversial. Phylogenomic studies have alternately placed bryozoans with entoprocts and cycliophorans—or as sisters to phoronids. Two competing hypotheses emerged: "Lophophorata" vs. "Polyzoa". (3/5)

Trump actually belongs to Superphylum Lophotrochozoa, and as with all members of this superphylum his physiology is distinguished by the presence of lophophores (a horseshoe-shaped mass of ciliated tentacles used for filter-feeding and waste elimination).
it's time to let it go, Mr President. Get a nice head razor. Maybe grow out some stubble. You can't continue on like this.

For over a century, lophophorates were thought to be related to deuterostomes based on embryology. In 1995, Halanych et al. overturned this view, showing instead that they share a common ancestor with molluscs and annelids, forming the Lophotrochozoa. (2/5)
