Monica McWilliams broke the mould in so many ways, as a woman, as an activist and as a politician. In her frank and fascinating memoir, #StandUpSpeakOut she tells her extraordinary story.

BBC’s #LyseDoucet talks to #female #Afghan #poets about the landay: a 22-syllable Pashtun verse form they create, perform+share to speak of #love, #sex, #war and hardship. 16.00 10.3.26 then #BBCSounds.

Only the BBC would do this. Free to hear. Funded by <48p per day per UK household licence fee.

Watching the #BBCNews channel and somehow in the fog of war isn't #LyseDoucet admirable? Always factual, always measured, always objective. An ideal correspondent.

Just finished reading this wonderful book by #LyseDoucet on a beautiful calm sunny day on the #FenEdge. At times I cried while reading it, but such an important reminder never to forget what a charmed and easy life those of us fortunate to have been born in the UK, when were, have had.
Thanks Lyse.

Learning on BBC about celebrations in Syria and preparations for updating facilities & restarting tourism to grow the economy from #LyseDoucet on #BBCNews Channel - interrupted for #KemiBadenoch conference speech - navel gazing poison.

#LyseDoucet (to civilian interviewee in #Iran): “I hope you sell lots of shoes today”

Our government cannot accept this - #BBC offering support and good wishes for terrorists?

#MetPolice must arrest her on her return. Anyone wearing Iranian shoes will be jailed.

Journalism is NOT dead. Some GREAT stuff around e.g. #TheObserver, #TheGuardian, #Channel4, #BBC e.g. #OrlaGuerin & #LyseDoucet in #UK & various others from abroad. There’s been FABULOUS investigations done across the years with outfits across different countries getting together e.g #ICIJ.

Viewing the violent and turbulant history of a country through the lives of people working and staying in a hotel is an original idea. And Lyse Doucet, or LyseDoucet as she is known by many in Afghanistan, makes it work.
