I do not believe that surveillance capitalism is justifiable because it violates privacy and freedom that we have as citizens in a democracy. Apps like Meta, Google, Tiktok and Instagram and corporations like Flock Safety all violate peoples ability to freely express themselves.

Th gramophone was just as revolutionary to youth culture as Nintendo gaming consoles. Both transformed individual bedrooms into social hubs, letting youth define identity through shared listening or play, fostering distinct subcultures and shaping strong peer connections over time. #Media180FA26X64D

Is surveillance capitalism a violation of privacy? I think it’s because companies collect information about what we do online and use it to make money and many people don’t know much about data is collected, co companies should respect our privacy.#Media180FA26X64D

The Internet has had a positive impact on democracy because it has helped the general public get faster results when it comes to news, politics, and the opinions of many. Before the Internet, it was harder to reach everyone when it came to information, but now it’s easier.

Payola still exists today, but it has changed with technology. Instead of only paying DJs, companies can influence radio rotation, streaming playlists, and social media promotion. This can make certain songs seem naturally popular to listeners even when money helps push them. #Media180FA26X64D

I think surveillance capitalism is a problem because companies collect our personal information to make money. They track what we search for and like online to show us ads. People should have more control over what information companies collect and use. #Media180FA26X64D

Payola in today's music industry is more subtle and extends beyond traditional radio. Influencers promote songs to ensure trends continue, and the amount of streams played is manipulated, giving their music more traction from deals, which leads independent artists being buried. #Media180FA26X64D

Payola still exists, just in different forms. Labels will push artists too hard through radio, streaming playlists, and social media, creating the appearance of organic success. These are obvious signs of payola. This hurts artists who earn attention without produced publicity. #Media180FA26X64D

The internet has had a mostly negative effect on democracy. People hoped social media would become political "town square", but instead it created disinformation to create panic and divide people at mass. Book, Media & Culture mentions fake Russian posts may have reached 126M users #Media180FA26x64D

I think the internet has been helpful for democracy because it lets people stay informed, discuss and participate in politics more easily than before. It also helps leaders understand the needs and concerns of citizens while giving people a space to share ideas and form opinions. #Media180FA26X64D

I think the Internet has both good and bad effects on democracy. It helps people find information, share opinions, and connect with others. However, misinformation can spread quickly and change what people believe. It can help democracy, but it depends on how people use it. #Media180FA26X64D

The gramophone was as significant to US youth culture as consoles like the Atari/NIntendo. Being able to listen to records would form large musical communities/friendships through liked genres. This inspired video games to do the same with their own music and playable content. #Media180FA26X64D

I am against surveillance capitalism because large corporations take our personal information without our consent and use it to psychologically manipulate us, filter the information we see, and influence our decisions for their own benefit. - Justin J
