in 2026 #Pediatrics #residency match, only 65% graduated from US #medicalschool (45% MD, 20% DO). 23%, ~1 in 4 were #international graduates on right now very stable J1 or H1B visas, who will definitely stay to care for American kids if they get sued and lose license for vaccine-preventable disease

This is why I'm often not as sympathetic as I could be when it comes to #physician pay. Yes, I know #StudentLoan debt from #MedicalSchool is onerous. But...it's not like they can't afford it. #MyOpinion buff.ly/jCthlyX

actually very similar to what @ranaawdish.bsky.social described 2 days ago. a close friend with #cysticfibrosis died of #renalfailure, which she found out is a horrible way to die. But we learned in #medicalschool that #uremia is a good way to die…because patients are quiet to doctors and nurses

This. We are seeing far more people with #socialscience #humanities or #arts degrees going to #medicalschool or completely different careers previously. We are not an assembly line for widgets
This argument fundamentally misunderstands academia, but it is especially insane in the context of the push to turn universities into conveyor belts for coding and science grads, because that’s what the “customer” wanted, just for AI and Trump to torpedo entry level hiring for these industries
Universities "have become too faculty-centric... we need good faculty, but they’re delivering a product to our customer. And you could argue our customer is either the student or the hiring companies that are hiring graduates. You could make an argument that they’re really the customer, ultimately"
