#HillfortsWednesday it's another video(don't worry, there were only 8;must be all out by now!)

It's Medmenham Camp in Buckinghamshire. I don't work to a script (you can probably tell that!) and the number of takes every time I messed up the word Medmenham was excruciating. youtu.be/v6SZYeiVpnk?...

#TraceryTuesday I am fond of this memorial window in Medmenham church, Bucks. It is poignant & beautiful.

The window is by A J Dix, & shows an Angel & Jesus on the left; while on the right, is Lt Col Arthur Murray Pirie DSO as a crusader.

Please see below for his details. @iangrebe.bsky.social

Medmenham Abbey on the Thames, taken in 1872 by Henry Taunt. Medmenham was a tiny Cistercian abbey, it is best known as the home of 18th century scumbag Sir Francis Dashwood of the Hell Fire Club.

We celebrated the 81st anniversary of VE Day yesterday at Danesfield House, known during WW2 as RAF Medmenham and home to an army of photo interpreters who analysed millions of aerial photographs brought back by daring Photo Reconnaissance pilots and drew vital intelligence from those images.

And yet you let the place Medmenham for a priestly death go by without a blink or a bit of red thread. Heroic poker face there.

Fabulous work, thank you.

I am very jealous and I hope you find info about her First and Second World War records too. I’d like to know more about her ambulance driving and how she got hold of lantern slides from France to give a talk to RAF Medmenham personnel about newly-discovered Lascaux!

Yesterday afternoon's walk along the left hand side of the Thames between Hambleden Lock & Marlow via Medmenham, avoiding the Temple Bridge closure detour. I've heard rumours that the bridge will be given a repair good for another 10 years rather than a complete rebuild - but just rumours!

We've definitely got some stuff on this! We've got a few letters to do with the Hellfire Club (and the Monks of Medmenham) and plenty of papers of the Dashwood family. Our catalogue is linked below if you'd like to take a look!
