My Melnorme fancharacter, Inventor Lavender dressed in a custom-fitted kimono. Now, how would a Melnorme get a kimono, isn't that something from Earth. Yes, but she has a sister-in-law(named Julep) who is a tailor, so she's probably the one who made this special. As to WHY Lavender would wear this? Well, let's just say she will do her very best to impress someone she's interested in! I'm NOT the best at making clothing patterns, but Lord knows I tried!

A redraw of my very first drawing of this big boy from 2023. Because of a roleplay I was a part of last night, it compelled me to want to draw Rusty again after some time. Because I love this fancharacter and actually missed him. Rusty-Red is both an anomaly amongst the Melnorme species, and a bit of a celebrity. The former because he became notable for having a rare genetic that tripled his bodily mass(alongside "long-pod", making his frontal pods resemble arms). The latter because of an interview by the Interstellar University of Sciences, giving him notoriety and the nickname "The Giant of Beta Wolf". And why Beta Wolf? Because he resided there as a refugee(scarcely escaping his birthplanet during a planetary collapse) and the other refugees profoundly respected him as a unique individual. He HAS taken training in Trade Mastery, but for an undisclosed reason, the Trade Master he was training with had a fit, saying Rusty would be "completely unfit to be a Trade Master". Although no reason was provided, he's pretty sure he knows the reason why he was told this. But that's okay, because he is currently seeking work in mining. With how strong he is, it suits him well. He is usually cheerful, sweet, bashful, emotional(to a fault), emotionally sensitive and something of a crybaby.

I'm sad too my first WoW character back during the public beta was named Spathi, my first LJ pfp back in Jesus 2001 was the Melnorme, I am so crazy about Star Control. I remember when the first Mass Effect came out and I was like "oh Star Control 2 with more graphic and third person shooter"

Star Control/Free Stars called theirs "the Precursors" but that's a 30 years old series.

Of the many aliens in that, only the Androsynth and the V.U.X. have English names, and the Androsynth are escaped clone slaves iirc. Everyone else is just Ur-Quan, Supox, Melnorme etc.

On an Isel homeworld, the Junk Heap visits a Historical Cavern to read a vital piece of information. With the Isels' permission, they record the history written on one of their History Crystals, translated by their guide. This history, about a star system called "Brimstone" ended up being populated by species who have a strong affinity for burning hot worlds. This also reveals an interesting piece of information on why the Mycon have been fewer in numbers(during the Starship Junk Heap timeline, 100 years after the Sa-Matra was destroyed): Something the Isel took part in called "Operation Ice Age".

Throughout the game you're also aided by the Melnorme, who set up camp in systems with white stars.

Well, not "aided" so much as conducting business. You capture life forms on planets and trade data on them for Credits, which can then be traded for useful clues.

Since I so hastily put together that commission sheet, I figured I'd put up some examples of what you might get here. Alt text has explanations.

A handmade plush of my Melnorme fancharacter, Lavender. She's made with various materials that I reclaimed, mostly articles of clothing that either do not fit or are unwanted. So it's hard to say EXACTLY what materials she's made of, lol. Additional notes: No sewing machine was used in the creation of this plush, it's ALL sewn by hand! I also did NOT use or even MAKE patterns for this plush either, because when my mind's set to making a plush like this, I usually have a good idea of how it'll turn out when it's finished. Second photo, this time a close up(include my hand for scale). You can see the additional embroidery I did for the eye, mouth and freckles. As always, embroidering the freckles was a HUGE pain in the neck! But I AM happy with how the embroidery of the teeth and around the eye turned out.

Rusty and Penny have a minor “rivalry” between them, but that’s for a good reason: Penny used to be a part of a rather vicious group of space pirates. What Rusty has not come to acknowledge(yet) is that the rest of that pirate crew is dead and Penny’s the only remaining member of that crew left. But hold on, how does Rusty know Penny was a part of that pirate crew?? It turns out that Beta Wolf was actually pilfered by that pirate crew, but he never saw Penny in the group that robbed the village of valuable goods. So Penny has to remind Rusty that she’s no longer a pirate and that she has come to regret being that way from when she was a rather young woman. Penny does tease Rusty, but this is (semi)friendly teasing, but Rusty does NOT like it when Penny does this!

Tried something different with this particular piece: color only background. I imagine that a Melnorme ghost would take on the color they’re named after. In the case of Lavender’s dearly departed mother, Rose-Red, a rosy shade of red. Apart from adoring her daughter’s handiwork and being proud of her, what is Rose-Red’s ghost doing here? Surely, she has something important to say, right?

I enjoyed the deep dive into the food culture and the mention of citric acid and their special wheat broth. I agree that a Melnorme would and should be omnivorous because most of their life as traders is a type of diplomacy, and if some Yehat offer you some kind of grub/egg dish y'ought be ready!
