What irony if AI destroyed Mag 7 moats. Craziest own goal or they had no choice?

they are a hot mess because they overinvested in CAPEX for a technology with no moats that's eating into their main business lol

moats don’t work anymore silly goose, why are you still trying to build moats??? that era is ending, its breathing its last dying breath
October 27, 2026 at 3:22 PM
Between this and ServiceNow it seems like markets are finally worrying that building a generalised destroyer of corporate moats might be bad for profits.
#$GOOGL market cap loss is bouncing around at just under $500 bil

only the #$NVDA loss of $589 bil in Jan '25 surpasses it in history

It'd be fascinating watching liberals run-circle themselves into these moats if it wasn't also so deeply disappointing.

It seems like Google is trading a capital light, high moats business (search) for a capital intensive, low moats business (building data centers and creating LLM models).

Do either "the density of the hoi polloi" or "the inability of many to consider post-primary consequences" count as moats, Josh?

destruction of moats around technology that permit rent extraction by corporate giants is good, actually [freespeechguy.jpg]

There's no moats in the future.
Only bridges.
~~rewrite everything from scratch~~ make everything interoperate
no, we don't need to rebuild everything from scratch. we spent decades improving our stack, building on others' successes and lessons, weaving a huge web of trust between teams that depend on each other. a clean slate disrupting it all isn't progress; the process and people are what matter
October 27, 2026 at 10:22 PM
drawbridges, to be precise
October 27, 2026 at 10:54 PM
(And in the meantime, Anthropic and the other contenders have a nice multi-year runway in which to build the old fashioned kind of moats: long-term contracts, customer good-will, vertical integration, healthy integrator ecosystems, etc.)

Idk man, how unlikely is it that these companies committed fraud? How much value has actually been created by silicon valley in the last ten years, as opposed to massive rent seeking from the moats that got built up in the 00s? What's meta done worth a damn in the last decade?

Exactly why product moats are becoming trust moats—owning the payment flow beats owning the code, but first users still come from one niche you obsess over.

I don’t understand how copyright of code really matters anymore, it barely did already. IP copyrights, closed source, NDA, trademarks, service moats… when was the last time code copyright mattered for something a big company did?
November 2, 2026 at 5:15 AM
closed loops always implode. time to build real moats instead.
