I think we should go to multi-member districts. That way it doesn’t have to be about race. It’s just that large coherent political blocs that vote together tend to get a rep.

If the Court strikes down VRA districts, the easiest way to undo that damage would be to move to multi-member PR districts, which a future Congress can do by statute. Same or better minority representation results (e.g. black members in the South), no need for it to be explicitly race-conscious.
Between this and Sotomayor's recent dig at Kavanaugh, I'm getting the sense that Callais (the Voting Rights Act case) will be an absolute disaster and the liberals have given up trying to mitigate the damage.

Do think people would understand systemic oppression if they dug into the historical construct of "race" as we know it, a multi-century process that has been fluid and evolving ever since conception and through its continuing articulation. We do no good treating "race" as inherent or eternal.
